Abstract

Front panel I/O board installation movie for IBM System x3650 T (Type 7980)

Content

To install the Front Panel I/O Board:

  1. Position the board in the chassis using the slotted post and port cutouts for alignment.
  2. Slide the board forward and secure with the screw on the right side.
  3. Place the CD ROM bracket in position using the screw hole for alignment and secure with the single screw.
  4. Here is a closer look at at a keyhole in the board and a slotted post on the chasses.

  5. Connect the following cables:
    • 80-Pin SCA SCSI (Out)

      The disk end on both SCSI cables must be firmly seated and aligned between the tabs on the SCSI release lever bracket so they will mate correctly with the drive when the release lever is rotated.

    • Alarms
    • Fan Control
    • SCSI 68 Pin
    • 80-Pin SCA SCSI (Out)

      Note: It is necessary to close the SCSI Drive 1 release handle to secure this cable.

    • USB
    • Front Panel
    • IDE
    • Power

Install the Fan Assembly:

  1. Position the fan assembly in the chassis using the plastic guide located on the right side frame and the alignment pins in the base as a guide.
  2. Tighten the single captive screw to secure.
  3. Connect the four fan power cables to the front panel board.
  4. Place the fan guard in position using the tab on the cover, the slot in the chassis, and the screw holes for alignment and secure with the two captive screws.

Install the CD/DVD Drive:

  1. Position the drive tray into the bay and press to seat the connector. Rotate the handle to the closed and locked position.

Install the Cover:

  1. Position the cover over the chassis aligning the tabs in the cover with the slots in the chassis.
  2. Slide the cover forward until latched in place.
  3. Here is a closer look at a cover tab and a slot in the chassis.

Install the Bezel:

  1. Position the Bezel on the system using the screw holes for alignment and secure with the two captive thumb screws.
