Abstract
Front panel I/O board removal movie for IBM System x3650 T (Type 7980)
Content
To remove the Front Panel I/O Board:
- Turn off the server and disconnect all power cords and external cables.
Remove the Bezel:
- Loosen the two captive thumb screws and lift it off.
Remove the Cover:
- Press in the cover release button and slide the cover the rear approximately one-half inch.
- Lift the cover off and place it to the side.
Remove the CD/DVD Drive:
- Squeeze the release latch and rotate the drive tray handle to the open position. Then grasp the drive tray and pull it from the front of the system.
Remove the Fan assembly:
- Loosen the two captive screws and remove the fan guard.
- Disconnect the four fan power cables from the front panel board.
- Loosen the single captive screw on the Fan Array Assembly and remove the Assembly.
Remove the Front Panel I/O Board:
- Disconnect the following cables:

- Power
- IDE
- Front Panel
- USB
- 80-Pin SCA SCSI (Out)
Note: It is necessary to open the SCSI Drive 1 release handle to free this cable
- SCSI 68 Pin
- Fan Control
- Fans 1 through 4 previously removed
- Alarms
- 80-Pin SCA SCSI (Out) for drive two
- Remove the screw that secures the CD ROM bracket and the board and lift the bracket off.
- Remove the screw that secures the board on the right side and slide the board to the rear and lift it out. Place it on an EDS protected surface.
