Text from the audio portion of the SATA hard drive removal movie

To remove a SATA hard disk drive

Remove the side cover:

  1. Turn off the server and all peripheral devices, and disconnect all power cords and external cables.
  2. Place the system on its right side. This is the recommended Service Position.
  3. Remove the two thumbscrews on the rear of the server. Slide the cover to the rear approximately one half inch and lift it off the server.

Remove the SATA hard disk drive:

  1. Disconnect the power and signal cables from the drive.
    Note: If two drives are installed, disconnect the cables from both drives.
  2. Remove the thumbscrew from the top of the drive cage.
  3. Rotate the drive cage up until it locks in the open position.
  4. Lift the drive cage up and out of the chassis.
  5. Remove the four screws, two on each side, that secure the drive to the drive cage and slide the drive out of the cage.
