Abstract

Instructions for removing the Power backplane from an IBM eServer xSeries 336 server.

To remove the Power backplane:

  1. Open the main cover:
    1. Release the latch for the I/O fan cover and open the cover.
    2. Release the latch for the processor fan cover and open the cover.
    3. Press in the cover release latch and rotate it up while sliding the cover to the rear appoximately one-half inch.
    4. Lift the cover off and place it to the side.

  2. Remove the power supplies by pressing the power supply latch handle to the left to unlock and then rotate down to disengage the power supplies from the back plane.

  3. Remove the back plane:
    1. Free the SCSI signal cable from the clamp and place aside.
    2. Disconnect the back plane cable.
    3. Slide the back plane assembly towards the side of the server, lift it out, and place on a static protected surface.
