Removal and installation of the power backplane

Note: After replacing the power backplane and reassembling the IBM Netfinity SP Switch, the box serial number must be programmed into the VPD of the new power backplane. For detailed instructions on programming the VPD of the replacement power backplanes, go to the IBM support Web site http://www.ibm.com/systems/support

To replace the power backplane, please follow these instructions:
- Unplug the VFD ribbon cable from the front left of the power backplane.
- Unplug the power supply cables from the left and right sides of the power backplane.
- Unplug the fan assembly power cables from the left and right sides of the power backplane.
| Attention: To avoid bending the locating pins on power backplane, unplug the power converter card(s) before you remove the power backplane screws. |
4. Unplug the power backplane from each power converter card, remove the failed power backplane and replace it with a new card.
5. Remove the nine screws (3 located on the front of the card, 2 located in the middle of the card, and 4 on the back edge of the card) that hold the power backplane onto the IBM Netfinity SP Switch.
6. Recable the new power backplane.
7. Go to Reassembling the IBM Netfinity SP Switch after service.
