Abstract

IBM Z Identify Top COBOL Module Tools are used as part of the process to identify top CPU consuming COBOL modules as outlined in the White Paper "Identifying Top CPU Consuming COBOL Programs".

IBM Z Generate Job List is a program which analyzes the IBM Z Batch Network Analyzer (zBNA) tool output and generates a job list sorted by their CPU consumption. The output of this program can be used as the input to performance profiling tools such as IBM Application Performance Analyzer for z/OS (APA).

REXX program samples are provided to automate the APA profiling step and to identify top COBOL modules running at the peak CPU activity time slot. The REXX program samples can be modified for use with other profilers.

Installation Instructions

IBM Z Generate Job List

  1. Download the IBM_Z_Generate_Job_List_V1.0.zip file and extract on your workstation.
  2. Follow the instructions in the README file for installation and usage.

Note: IBM Z Generate Job List is a Java program that runs on your workstation.
           IBM Z Generate Job List is not compatible with zBNA version 2.1 and higher.
           The zBNA version 2.1 'Top programs' report can be used to help you generate a job list from the CSV file directly.


REXX script samples

  1. Download the REXX_program_samples.zip file and extract on your workstation.
  2. Follow the instructions in the README file to upload the samples to your mainframe.
  3. Follow the instructions in the README file for customization and usage. 

Note: REXX programs are executed on the mainframe.
