Summary

A vulnerability in Eclipse IDE version 2023-09 (4.29) was found. The IBM Enterprise Records configuration manager tool was using Eclipse IDE to help present the user interface for customers to configure their software.

DESCRIPTION:   In Eclipse IDE versions 2023-09 (4.29) some files with xml content are parsed vulnerable against all sorts of XXE attacks. The user just needs to open any evil project or update an open project with a vulnerable file (for example for review a foreign repository or patch).

Remediation/Fixes

 IER version 5.2.1.9 provides a new interface for configuration management that does not use the Eclipse IDE any more.  Instead, it provides a new ICN plugin that does this same work.  The older configuration management tool has been removed from the product.
