Compatibility scenarios and limitations
You are strongly recommended to maintain all IBM Workload Scheduler components at the latest version level as regular maintenance activity. Keeping your environment consistent also ensures you can implement the new features available with each release.
Known limitations and workarounds
The following are software limitations and workarounds that affect Dynamic Workload Console 10.2.6:
When connected to a V10.2.x engine, rerunning a job from the Orchestration Monitor results in a blank page.
Workaround
To workaround the issue, perform the following steps:- Browse to the following path:
/opt/wa/TWA/usr/servers/engineServer/apps/TWSEngineModel.ear/WD.war/monitor/common. - Open the
jobInPlan.jsonfile. Browse to the jobRerun section:
{"jobRerun":true,"justification":true,"breadcrumbTitleId":"MW_RERUN_JOB","helpId":"rerunjobnew","query":"/@/@#/@/@","key":"RERUN_JOB","subkey":"RERUN_FROM","type":"job","labelId":"MW_RERUN","show":["RERUN_TYPE_ROW"],"cleanUpTemplatePolicy": ["jobDefinitionDbIdentifier","jobDefinitionDbKey","priority","rerunJobOnSameWorkstation","startTime","stepName"],"order":4Under the "labelId" field, add the following parameter:
"actualWorkstationField" : "jobruns.?lastInRerunChain==true.actualWorkstation"Delete the
cachefolder located in the following path:/opt/wa/TWA/usr/servers/engineServer/apps/TWSEngineModel.ear/WD.war/WEB-INFDelete the
monitorWorkloadCachefolder located in the following path:/opt/wa/DWC/usr/servers/dwcServer/dwc_workarea
- Browse to the following path:
After updating the Dynamic Workload Console to version 10.2.6, blank lines can appear between items in the Design menu, corresponding to the pages of the Workload Definitions section that were removed in V10.2.6 release. This issue occurs if custom roles created in a previous version reference menu items that are now removed.
On Firefox browser, some functions of the Multiple selection option on the Job stream view might not work.
When monitoring a File Transfer job from the Dynamic Workload Console, the Workflow Details panel displays information about the transfer of individual files. If you use wildcards instead of a specific file name and the job step fails, you cannot restart the step.
To use the User Object Credential Management page, users require at least one of the following security permissions:
- Design and monitor workload: User Objects - Modify (userobj access=modify)
- Modify plan: Alter user password (userobj - altpass)
SAP and Shadow job definitions cannot be created nor edited from the Graphical Designer.
Job logs containing Japanese characters might appear garbled when viewed in the Dynamic Workload Console or when using the command line on fault-tolerant agents running on Windows operating systems.
The generation of reports in the Dynamic Workload Console fails when the Dynamic Workload Console is installed on z/OS systems.
Archived records that are stored by the Federator into the database used, if any, are not always auto deleted according to the cleanup policy set in the fed_variables.xml file.
Old engines that are stored by the Federator into the database used, if any, are not deleted.
After you have registered a z/OS engine to the Federator, it is added to the list of discovered engines, which are only usable in the Orchestration Monitor. To make all the other Dynamic Workload Console functions available to z/OS engines, you must define them manually on the Dynamic Workload Console.
Package structure
For a detailed list of available packages, see the 10.2.6 Quick Start Guide document available from IBM Fix Central.
Installing and upgrading to version 10.2.6
This section describes how to install and upgrade the Dynamic Workload Console to version 10.2.6.
Before getting started, verify that the following requirements are met:
- The Dynamic Workload Console is active.
- No user is connected to the Dynamic Workload Console to prevent the data related to their working session from being lost.
Software requirements for WebSphere Application Server Liberty Base
WebSphere Application Server Liberty Base adopts a continuous delivery model where new versions are deployed on a monthly basis.
During formal testing, IBM Workload Scheduler and the Dynamic Workload Console were tested using WebSphere Application Server Liberty Base version 25.0.0.11. The minimum required version to successfully install the product is 25.0.0.9
For the Dynamic Workload Console installed in a z/OS environment, testing was conducted using WebSphere Application Server Liberty Base version 25.0.0.9, which is also the minimum required version for that configuration.
For more information about which subsequent versions of WebSphere Application Server Liberty Base can be used in the future, see Recommended updates for WebSphere Application Server.
Installation notes
- If you plan to perform a fresh installation with WebSphere Application Server Liberty 26.0.0.3 or later, set the SECUREWRAP_PASSPHRASE environment variable to a custom passphrase of your choice before you run the installation command. If you are upgrading IBM Workload Scheduler or WebSphere Application Server Liberty, no action is required. For more information, see IWS 10.2.x earlier than 10.2.7 returns installation failure with Liberty 26.0.0.3.
- Ensure you have installed the required prerequisite software. To obtain the latest information about software requirements for IBM Workload Scheduler, run the Detailed System Requirements report and browse to the relevant section.
Before performing an upgrade, check whether the ssl_config.xml file is present in the overrides folder. If the file is present, check the verifyHostname option in the twaSSLSettings section. The verifyHostname must be set to false, as shown in the following example:
<ssl id="twaSSLSettings" keyStoreRef="twaKeyStore" trustStoreRef="twaTrustStore" sslProtocol="TLSv1.2" clientAuthenticationSupported="true" verifyHostname="false"/>- Depending on the WebSphere Application Server Liberty version you are using, you might encounter the problems described in the following technotes:
Versions equal to or higher than 24.0.0.8
See Possible IWS compatibility issues with Liberty 24.0.0.8 or higher
Versions ranging from 24.0.0.3 to 24.0.0.8
Upgrade notes
