Download Description
ERROR DESCRIPTION:
Ship Java 8 SR8 FP51 for WebSphere Application Server traditional bundled Java 8
LOCAL FIX:
None
PROBLEM SUMMARY:
Ship Java 8 SR8 FP51 for WebSphere Application Server traditional bundled Java 8
USERS AFFECTED:
This combination of WebSphere Application Server and Java is available with fix pack 855.11 and later.
PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
Ship Java 8 SR8 FP51 for WebSphere Application Server traditional bundled Java 8
RECOMMENDATION:
Apply this interim fix to your SDK to upgrade or install bundled Java 8 to Java 8 SR8 FP51.
This interim fix includes two possible upgrade scenarios:
a) If applied to WebSphere 8.5.5.11 or later where bundled Java 8 is installed, it will upgrade your bundled Java 8 to SR8 FP51.
b) If applied to WebSphere 8.5.5.11 or later where the original Java 6 is installed, it will remove Java 6 and replace it with bundled Java 8 SR8 FP51. All profiles and WebSphere infrastructure will be upgraded to use bundled Java 8.
As of 8.5.5.19, Linux PPC64 LE now supports bundled Java 8. Please discontinue use of the extension offering Java 8 and move to use the bundled Java 8.
NOTE:
On AIX, HP-UX Linux, Solaris and Windows: In WebSphere 8.5 or 8.5.5, using Java 6, 7, and 7.1, the java.security file was not serviceable, meaning that it was not replaced when a fix pack or an interim fix was applied.
On z/OS: The java.security file was always serviceable. Since no behavior change was implemented, no backup will be created.
It is required to install APAR PH57668 before installing the interim fix. PH57668 is bundled with WebSphere Java interim fixes. See https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/7109805 for more details.
NOTE:
If Java 2 Security is enabled, the server will fail to start because of permission issues. The following needs to be added to the java.policy file to avoid this issue.
grant codeBase "file:${java.home}/fips${com.ibm.fips.mode}/lib/ext/*" {
permission java.security.AllPermission;
};- If any files under WAS_HOME/java are added or modified subsequent to installing an interim fix, the additions or changes will be lost when interim fixes are uninstalled.
- For 8.0.8.25 and later, files listed as non-serviceable will have their changes preserved.
- When the first JDK interim fix is installed on top of a fixpack, it performs a backup of the WAS_HOME/java and saves it in WAS_HOME/properties/patches/backup
- When the interim fix is uninstalled (manually, or by a fixpack update that no longer requires the interim fix) WAS_HOME/java will be removed and replaced by the backup
- For 8.0.8.25 and later, files listed as non-serviceable will have their changes preserved.
- Linux on IBM Power Big Endian (BE) is currently supported ONLY by RedHat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 7, which is reaching End of Support by June 2024. Hence, IBM SDK, Java Technology Edition, v8.0 will discontinue support for Linux on IBM Power Big Endian platforms (both 32-bit and 64-bit architectures) starting July 2024.Therefore, SR8 FP30 will be the final release for Linux on IBM Power Big Endian platforms (32-bit and 64-bit).
- IBM SDK, Java Technology Edition, version 8.0 is discontinued on the following platform due to its end of support:
- Linux on IBM Z 32-bit – Effective 1 May 2025
PROBLEM CONCLUSION:
Applying this apar will upgrade or install bundled Java 8 to Java 8 SR8 FP51 (Oracle 1.8.0_u461).
The fixes in this Java SDK are found here .
When downloading the fix from fix central, please also download the readme.txt with instructions for installation.
This Java SDK level was minimally tested with WebSphere 8.5.5.28.
The fix for this APAR is targeted for inclusion in WebSphere Application Server fix packs 8.5.5.28 . For more information, see https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/715553
