Error description
The HIPAA compliance_check map produces invalid 999 when processing 5010X223A2 837 file containing a CLM10 field that includes invalid composite delimiter characters, the resulting HIPAA 999 Acknowledgement file includes the CLM10 field data in the IK404 Copy of Bad Data Element field. The result is that the 999 Acknowledgement fails as invalid because of the composite delimiter characters IK404 Copy of Bad Data Element field. Recommended using a different composite delimiter in the 999 ISA segment in order to allow the IK404 Copy of Bad Data Element field to pass validation. The 999 documentation indicates that the IK404 is not required or situational if the bad data contains invalid characters. The 999 is reported as Error Code I6 for "Code Value Not Used in Implementation" and not Error Code 6 for "Invalid Character In Data Element". The following is the IK404 description and situational rule. IK404 724 Copy of Bad Data Element O AN 1/99 Situational Description: This is a copy of the data element in error Situational Rule: Required unless invalid characters are present, data is missing, or the data is from a binary data element. If not required by this implementation guide, do not send. The reported problem has been recreated by modifying the 5010X223A2 837 example hipaa_5010_x223a2_837i_sample.dat file. The hipaa_5010_x223a2_837i_sample.dat file to include only one Transaction, the same composite delimiter ( ^ )and terminator ( ~CRLF ) as the reported problem and then added the CLM10 data value of 11^22^33 which contains the composite delimiter CLM Segment: CLM*756048Q*89.93***14^A^1**A*Y*I*11^22^33**********2~ The compliance_check produces a 999 Acknowledgement file with the following IK4 Segment that includes the CLM10 value as the IK404 value of 11^22^33 IK4 Segment: IK4*10*1351*I6*11^22^33~
