General Description

This is a Fix pack for IBM Tivoli Composite Application Manager Agent for WebSphere Applications, Version 7.2.0.

This Agent Fix pack also bundles the following maintenance level of the ITCAM Data Collector for WebSphere:

7.2.0.0.21.

Prerequisites

Following is the list of the prerequisites.

IBM Tivoli Composite Application Manager for Applications V7.2 ITCAM Agent for WebSphere Applications V7.2.
IBM Tivoli Monitoring V6.2.2 Fix pack 2 - for TEMS, TEPS, and TEP.

There is continued support for IBM Tivoli Monitoring ITM 6.2.2 Fix Pack 2.

The following are known issues:

The link from situation pop-up in the Tivoli Enterprise Portal navigation tree does not work for WASError situation with multiple lines (or special characters).
In the Application Health Summary table, the first row has a different font compared to the other rows.
HOSTNAME value is '' in the generated response file. In the file silent_config_yn.txt in the /opt/os_agent/response directory, the HOSTNAME value is ''.

For OSLC support, the following are required:
- IBM Tivoli Monitoring (ITM) V6.3 or later
- An ITM OS agent V6.3 or later, installed on the same computer system as the WebSphere agent
On RHEL (x86 and s390x) and SUSE (x86 and s390x), ensure the following packages are installed:
- libnsl
- libxcrypt-compat*
- ksh

Limitations

Remote deployment and remote upgrade scenarios are not supported.

Installation instructions

Before ITCAM Agent installation, set JAVA_HOME and PATH variables on the platform where the agent installation is to be done.
Installation is to be performed on each computer that contains the agent, hub TEMS, remote TEMS, and TEPS. Note that it is very important to install the application support files on hub TEMS, remote TEMS, TEPS, and TEP.

Log in to IBM Passport Advantage and, depending on OS, download the compressed fix pack file for 7.2.0.1.0 by using the part number of the installation image by referring to below table and then extract it.

Reconfigure the ITCAM Agent using thecommand line or the GUI.

ITCAM Data Collector for WebSphere

If the maintenance level of the ITCAM Data Collector for WebSphere shipped with this Agent Fix pack is higher than the existing DC level, then the Data Collector will also be installed in a new DC_HOME directory.
Use the configuration utility using the command line or silent mode to monitor new WebSphere server instances.
Use the migrate utility using the command line or silent mode to upgrade WebSphere server instances from an earlier DC maintenance level.

OSLC Support

Install an OS agent on the same computer system as the WebSphere agent. You must install an OS agent version that supports OSLC.
Copy the following files from the Agent directory to the computer system where your Hub TEMS and Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Automation Server are installed as follows:

Windows

Copy file from TEMA <ITM_HOME>\TMAITM6\kynoslc.xml to TEMS: <ITM_HOME>\CMS\OSLC\XML
Copy file from TEMA <ITM_HOME>\TMAITM6\kynutil.xml to TEMS: <ITM_HOME>\CMS\OSLC\LIBS

Restart the Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Automation Server.

Spring Framework beans monitoring

Add to WebSphere Appliction Server JVM arguments:

Uncomment com.ibm.tivoli.itcam.toolkit.ai.enablespring=true in toolkit_global_custom.properties (to enable for all application servers) or in toolkit_custom.properties (on per-server basis).

Resource monitoring

Use Case 1: Enable resource monitoring without configuring the ITCAM data collector within the application server.

Run the ITCAM data collector configuration tool.

When you see the following prompt:

Do you want to integrate with an ITCAM Agent for WebSphere Applications?

Specify "1" (Yes) to select integration with the WebSphere agent.

When you see the following prompt:

Do you want to configure a data collector within the application server?

Specify "2" (No) to bypass theconfiguration of the data collector.

Optionally specify an alias when prompted:

Enter the server alias for server XX in node YY

Optionally override the TCP/IP port that will be used for internal communications between ITCAM components to gather resource monitoring data. Unless the default port (63355) is in use, you should probably accept the default value.

Enter the internal port number for resource monitoring [default is: 63355]

After you accept the configuration selections, the config tool will display a message to confirm the configuration of resource monitoring:

Successful registration of resource (PMI) monitoring by ITCAM Agent for WebSphere Applications.

Restart the ITCAM Agent for WebSphere Applications to initiate resource monitoring.
Resource (PMI) metrics will be available in the Tivoli Enterprise Portal (TEP)

Use Case 2: Enable resource monitoring and configure the ITCAM data collector within the application server

Run the ITCAM data collector configuration tool

When you see the following prompt:

Restart the ITCAM Agent for WebSphere Applications to initiate resource monitoring.

Restart the application server to deploy the data collector in order to display request monitoring, garbage collection, and log analysis metrics in the TEP.

WebSphere Liberty Profile Monitoring :

Run the ITCAM Data Collector configuration tool.
Specify the WebSphere Liberty Profile directory after the following prompt:

Enter a number or enter the full path to a home directory [default is: 1]:

Continue with the Data Collector configuration.

Issues and Workarounds

1. Agent is not getting started on SUSE 16 (Z Platform) as the libnsl.so library is deprecated
Workaround: Create a placeholder using another valid library, like below:
sudo cp /usr/lib64/libc.so.6 /usr/lib64/libnsl.so.1

2. IV63126 Situations associations are missing when dynamic affinities are used.
Workaround: Install ITM APAR IV63126.
