ELM on IBM Cloud - upcoming mandatory upgrades to 7.0.3

News

Abstract

This announcement is for teams with Enterprise deployments of IBM Engineering Lifecycle Management (ELM) on Cloud that have not yet upgraded to ELM 7.0.3.
These deployments will undergo some mandatory updates over the next several months. Currently, these deployments are operating on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 7 under an extended support contract that will expire before 2H 2025. To ensure continued service and maintain secure deployments, we must upgrade to a newer version of RHEL before this deadline. After thorough evaluation, we have decided to migrate ELM SaaS environments to RHEL 9.

For the enterprise deployments still running ELM version 7.0.2, we will have to perform the migration in two phases since ELM SaaS 7.0.2 does not support RHEL 9:

  1. Upgrade to ELM SaaS 7.0.3: We will first migrate your environment from 7.0.2 to 7.0.3.
  2. RHEL 9 Migration: Once the upgrade to 7.0.3 has been validated, we will schedule and execute the RHEL 9 migration.

We understand that you may have concerns about transitioning to a new version of ELM SaaS. Please rest assured that this process has been carefully planned and tested. To date, over 100 customers have successfully migrated to 7.0.3 without encountering any issues. Moreover, the transition from 7.0.2 to 7.0.3 is significantly less complex and time-intensive than the migration from version 6.x to 7.

This same announcement has been communicated to our IBM ELM SaaS clients via the IBM Customer Communication Center (CCC).  If you are subscribed to notifications, you would have received an email regarding this plan and scheduling details specific to your IBM ELM SaaS deployment.
How to Setup Notifications for your ELM SaaS deployment

ELM 7.0.3 Upgrade Plan

To ensure a seamless migration, our hosting provider will open a proactive ticket, in advance, with IBM Support.  If any critical issues arise during the production migration, our hosting provider can immediately escalate it to a Sev1 priority. The production 7.0.3 upgrade will be scheduled for a Friday evening outside of regular business hours.  While the migration window is 24 hours, past upgrades have been completed well ahead of schedule. After running IBM ELM SaaS 7.0.3 in production for a few weeks, we will coordinate the RHEL 9 migration. This second phase will be simpler, requiring no changes to ELM. It will follow the same approach as routine middleware patching, with a scheduled outage.

If you have any questions about the scheduled ELM SaaS upgrade, please open a support ticket through the IBM Support Portal and reference this notification. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in helping us maintain a secure and reliable service.

Thank you for your continued trust in IBM.
