Known issues
- Due to the security enhancement in Java, the default support for TSL v1.0 and TSL v1.1 has been dropped from the bundled JVM from this release. This has some influences to Web crawler and corresponding countermeasures described below:
- When crawling websites that mandate TLS v1.2 and/or TLS v1.3, add support for those TLS versions in the crawler's configuration file manually. Please refer to Watson Explorer Analytical Components (WEX AC): How to Configure TLS for the Web Crawler for details. We are planning to make this configuration by default in the future fix pack release.
- When crawling websites that still use TLS v1.0 or TLS v1.1, remove "TLSv1" or "TLSv1.1" from jkd.tls.disabledAlgorithms in the following files.
- On AIX and Linux (including Linux on System z and PowerLinux BE):
- $ES_INSTALL_ROOT/_jvm/jre/lib/security/java.security
- $ES_INSTALL_ROOT/_jvm64/jre/lib/security/java.security
- On Windows:
- %ES_INSTALL_ROOT%\_jvm\jre\lib\security\java.security
- %ES_INSTALL_ROOT%\_jvm64\jre\lib\security\java.security
- If you want to apply this update to existing crawlers, restart them.
- On AIX and Linux (including Linux on System z and PowerLinux BE):
- The Fix of Content Analytics Studio is not included in this Fix Pack release. Please continue to use the Content Analytics Studio of Version 11.0.2.2 if you need to use Content Analytics Studio.

Additional language support for machine-learning annotator
From v11.0.2, machine-learning annotator supports new languages: Portuguese, French, Italian, and Korean. To update the Statistical Information and Relation Extraction (SIRE) runtime, install SIRE rpm which is provided in the ES_INSTALL_ROOT/bin/sire/sire-20161109-1.x86_64.rpm with the following command:
rpm -Uvh sire-20161109-1.x86_64.rpm
- After SIRE rpm is installed, restart the system for the change to take effect.
- If it is your first time using the machine-learning annotator, refer the following documents:
- http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21994580
In Version 11.0.1, the inspection log was added. In this release, the inspection log is improved. For Version 11.0.2, the user's full name, administrative role, and actions are shown. You can obtain the report in the CSV format by clicking the "Download CSV" button.
Enable crawler scheduling without starting crawlers after the system is started
With this feature, crawlers do not need to be manually started in the Administrative Console after the system is restarted, if the schedule was set before the system was stopped for the first time.
To enable this feature:
-
- Edit "ES_NODE_ROOT/master_config/scheduler/scheduler.poperties" and set "RestartCrawlerOnStart=false" as "RestartCrawlerOnStart=true".
- Synchronize the configuration by running "esadmin config sync".
- Restart the product of scheduler session.
Document flag information that is included in returned search results is now included in CSV reports. The "DocumentFlags" column of the CSV file is the document flag data. For information about configuring document export to export flags, see Analyzed Document Export and Flag Export Support.
If the defined flag names contain a comma (,) and you want to change the flag separator from a comma to another character, you can configure it by inserting following configuration property into the $ES_NODE_ROOT/master_config/searchserver/repo/(analytics or search)/[appName]/config.properties file:
- preferences.report.flagSeparator=(new flag separator character)
Dates are formatted as readable dates in Miner Report and Search Export
The date type field can use the format (including Microsoft Excel compatible) for Miner reports and search export from the Miner UI.
Export enhancement
For analyzed or searched documents that are exported as CSV files, document flags can be exported. For information, see Analyzed Document Export and Flag Export Support.
Linguistic resource enhancement
Hebrew and Japanese linguistic resources in Content Analytics collections have been enhanced to improve the accuracy.
Search export performance improvement
Now the search export runs faster than previous versions with multi-partition configuration for the index.
Rule-based annotator
For information, see Using rule-based annotators from Watson Knowledge Studio in Watson Explorer.
Automated concurrent thread creation for JDBC database crawler
The JDBC database crawler now has a configuration to concurrently crawl multiple rows in a table with multiple threads using multiple connections. For more information, see Configuring and monitoring concurrent threads for JDBC database crawlers.
Content Analytics Studio Enhancement
The Studio has been enhanced to support distributed Content Analytics Server configuration. The Content Analytics Server connection document has been extended to have a new option "Different Data and Admin server host names?".
- If this checkbox is not selected (the default), then the document prompts for a single Content Analytics Server host name.
- If this checkbox is selected, then the document prompts for both a Data and an Administration host name.
- Automatic - the Studio will attempt to import the actual document text. If this is not available, it will download the preview text.
- Content Cache - the Studio will import the actual document text from the cache, if available
- Preview Document - the Studio will import the preview text.
.
Installation
This section describes known issues and workarounds for installing Watson Explorer Analytical Components.
Agent for Windows File System Installation
Performing the clean installation of the Agent for Windows File System will overwrite any existing config files. This means that if the user selected not to delete the config files during uninstallation, the config is not restored when the user reinstalls the Agent on the same system. The workaround for this is to backup the config files stored in ES_AGENT_INSTALL_ROOT/esadmin folder to a different place. Then, after reinstalling the Agent, overwrite the folder with the backup folder in order to restore the previous configs.
Installing Content Analytics Studio
Beginning with Version 11.0.1, Content Analytics Studio is a Windows 64-bit native application, and to install Studio, a 64-bit JRE is also required. If your system JVM is 32-bit, refer to Installing Content Analytics Studio in the Installation section of the release notes for V11.0.1 for the solution.
Upgrade
For information about upgrading your existing Watson Explorer Content Analytics and Content Analytics Studio system, including information about the supported upgrade paths and troubleshooting tips, see Upgrading the Watson Explorer Analytical Components to Version 11.0.2.
After the upgrade, the encryption key that is in the es.cfg file for an additional server might not match the encryption key that is in the master server.
If you install an additional server to the existing (migrated) master server, communication might fail. If communication fails because of this issue, the values of the encryption key values (CK) in the es.cfg file on the servers do not match.
To use the same key values in each server:
1. Copy the value from one server to the other.
2. Run the eschangepw.sh script to set the same encrypted password on each server.
3. If you use WebSphere(R) Application Server, run the eschangewaspw.sh script to set the same encrypted password on each server.
For more information about the encrypted administrator password and eschangepw.sh script, see Setting the encrypted administrator password to be the same on all servers.

Administration
This section describes known issues and workarounds for administering Watson Explorer Content Analytics.
Limitation and procedures for the flag function when exported under a distributed server environment
- The flag function doesn't support searcher backup sessions. When you use a flag, you need to remove the searcher backup session from $ES_NODE_ROOT/<col_id>.indexservice/partition.properties
- If you used the flag function under multi-searcher node configuration on a version that is older than this version, you need to initialize all flag data for the collection (you don't need to clear flag definition on the Admin page).
To initialize all flag data:
1. Enter "$ES_INSTALL_ROOT/cloudscape/ij" to start the ij console.
2. Enter "connect 'jdbc:derby://localhost:1527/flag;create=false';" to connect the database session.
3. Enter "delete from "<col_id>".DOCFLAGS;" to delete the collection's flag data.
4. Enter "exit;" to exit the ij console.
Rule-based Annotator Message Issues
Messages on Admin GUI show incorrect instructions. (System tab -> Parse -> Configure rule-based models)
Configure rule-based models by using pre-compiled Text Analytics Module (.tam) file -> Add Rule-Based Model
- Though messages say we need to input the directory name having the pre-compiled Text Analytics Module (.tam) file, we need to input the file name of the pre-compiled Text Analytics Module (.tam) file, including the .tam extension.
Configure rule-based models by using processing engine archive (.pear) file -> Add Rule-Based Model
- Though messages say we need to input the directory name having the processing engine archive (.pear) file, we need to input the file name of the processing engine archive (.pear) file, including the .pear extension.
Configure rule-based models by using Text Analytics Module (.aql) file /
Configure rule-based models by using pre-compiled Text Analytics Module (.tam) file -> Edit Rule-Based Model
- We cannot change the supported languages of the existing rule-based models. To change them, we need to recreate the models from scratch.
Rule-based Annotator Issues on Windows Platforms
For Watson Explorer Analytics Component V11.0.2 installed on Windows platforms, running rule-based annotators causes error in parse and index session. This is due to malformed paths of the UIMA descriptors stored in %ES_NODE_ROOT%\master_config\uima.xml
To resolve this issue, see Resolving rule-based annotator issues in Watson Explorer Analytics Component V11.0.2 on Windows platforms

IBM Watson Explorer Content Analytics Studio (Content Analytics Studio)
Important: All the known issues, limitations, and workarounds that were documented for Content Analytics Studio in Version 10 still apply in Version 11.0.2. For details, see Release Notes - IBM Watson Explorer Analytical Components, Version 10.0.
The import of documents from a Content Analytics Server to the Studio has been enhanced to allow the user to specify whether the original document text, or the preview text should be imported. This is useful because under some conditions the Server does not keep the actual document text. The import document dialog window has a new option, "Import Type ". This option can be set to either:
- Automatic - the Studio will attempt to import the actual document text. If this is not available, it will download the preview text.
- Content Cache - the Studio will import the actual document text from the cache, if available
- Preview Document - the Studio will import the preview text.
Hebrew linguistic analysis has been enhanced to improve the accuracy. From v11.0.2, Hebrew uses the specific part-of-speech tag set instead of the simplified tag set that is used for other languages. For further details about Hebrew part-of-speech tag set, refer to the context help on the Studio.
