Downloading IBM MQ 9.1 LTS

Download

Abstract

Download the latest IBM MQ 9.1.0 LTS release from Passport Advantage, Fix Central, or (for z/OS systems) the ShopZ website. You can download the base install image, and/or apply the latest fix pack or CSU.

Download Description

The latest IBM MQ 9.1.0 LTS maintenance release is IBM MQ 9.1.0.34 (LTS CSU).

For updates to IBM MQ 9.1, you choose between Long Term Support (LTS) and Continuous Delivery (CD) releases. LTS is for systems that demand the highest levels of stability. LTS maintenance releases contain fixes to identified problems and vulnerabilities, and do not add new function. For more information, see the IBM MQ FAQ for Long Term Support and Continuous Delivery Releases.

LTS maintenance releases are delivered concurrently on Multiplatforms, z/OS, and the MQ Appliance. For IBM MQ 9.1 LTS, Multiplatforms refers to AIX, IBM i, Linux, Solaris, and Windows. From IBM MQ 9.2.0, Solaris is no longer a supported platform.

From 1Q 2023, there are two types of LTS maintenance release; Fix packs and Cumulative security updates (CSUs):

  • Fix packs contain roll-ups of all defects fixed since the previous maintenance release or GA.
  • CSUs contain security patches released since the previous maintenance release or GA.
  • Both types of maintenance update the F-digit of the VRMF to a higher number than any previous maintenance.
  • Both types of maintenance are mutually cumulative, from the initial release. You can apply any higher numbered fix pack or CSU of the same version/release to upgrade directly to that version level. You do not have to apply the intervening fixes.

For more information, see Changes to IBM MQ's maintenance delivery model.

For a given platform, both types of maintenance are downloaded and installed using the same mechanism: Multiplatforms and IBM MQ Appliance use the fix pack delivery mechanism, and z/OS uses PTFs. For UNIX System Services features (that is, JMS and WEB UI, Connector Pack, and Managed File Transfer) the z/OS PTFs are aligned directly with the Multiplatforms fix packs and CSUs. Other PTFs are made available as and when they are produced.

Fix Pack 9.1.0.9 and earlier also included fixes for the IBM MQ Appliance. However, support for the IBM MQ 9.1 Appliance firmware ended in September 2021, and subsequent fix packs do not include firmware updates for IBM MQ 9.1 on the Appliance. For the IBM MQ Appliance support schedule, see https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/lifecycle/search/?q=mq%20appliance.

For a history of IBM MQ 9.1.0 LTS releases, their release types, and details of the fixes that were delivered in each release, see Fix list for IBM MQ Version 9.1 LTS.

A trial version of the LTS release, for each of the last two IBM MQ major versions, is available for download here.

Images for the earlier releases that are listed in the following sections might no longer be available.

Downloading the LTS release for IBM MQ for Multiplatforms

For Multiplatforms, you download the latest LTS release from Fix Central or Passport Advantage. You typically use the Fix Central download to update an existing installation, and the Passport Advantage download to create a new installation. If new operating system support is added to IBM MQ (for example IBM MQ 9.1.0.5 added RHEL 8 support to the Linux on x86 64-bit platform), ensure you install from the latest available Passport Advantage download. If this eImage is not at the latest maintenance level for your platform, install the eImage then apply the latest maintenance release from Fix Central.

Download the latest IBM MQ LTS base install image from Passport Advantage

LTS base images for each operating system are available as parts on Passport Advantage, for which you must have an entitled IBM ID.

To download an image, either click the link for the relevant part number in this section or sign in to Passport Advantage then search for the part number. If you install IBM MQ images on a UNIX or Linux-based platform, you must use GNU tar (also known as gtar) to unpack any tar images.

For the initial release, parts were also available for the IBM MQ Advanced certified container (formerly IBM MQ Cloud Pak). Search Passport Advantage for part numbers CNW2MML (for Ubuntu) or CNW2NML (for Red Hat). This container was delivered as a Continuous Delivery image because of the pace of change in this area, which means that updates are needed at the frequency of the IBM MQ CD releases.

As shown in the following tables, base images are sometimes updated to a maintenance release level. Such updates are occasional and generally occur for a subset of operating systems.

  • If an image is available for the release and operating system that you require, you can just install that image.
  • If an image is not available for the release and operating system that you require (for example, no row exists for that release or a cell contains a dash ('-')), install the most recent image that is listed for your operating system then download and apply the maintenance release that you require from Fix Central, as described in the next section.

Downloading the LTS release for IBM MQ Appliance

The final update for IBM MQ Appliance is 9.1.0.9.

Firmware images for base installations and maintenance releases are available from Fix Central. Run this Fix Central query. Select the release that you require from the resulting list then click the Continue button. You might need to click "Show superseded fixes" within some of the list items to show all the available releases

The base installation firmware images can be applied to the M2002, M2001 and M2000 hardware models. If you are downloading a maintenance release, apply it to an existing LTS base installation.
