Question & Answer
Question
What is the official statement of support for the different versions of IWS and IAS on the different IBM i OS VRMs?
Answer
The information below describes IBM's official support statement regarding the IWS/IAS server on the various IBM i OS VRMs (version, release, and modification level).
You can locate the current IWS/IAS version of your server in the IBM Web Administration for i console (http://:2001/HTTPAdmin OR https://:2010/HTTPAdmin) under Manage -> Application Server -> Select your server from the drop-down Server box. The server version will be listed next to your server name and the server type will be in parenthesis.
IAS = Integrated Application Server
IWS = Integrated Web Services
V7.1 (int app svr) = IAS v7.1
V8.1 (int app svr) = IAS v8.1
V8.5 (int app svr) = IAS v8.5
V1.3 (web services) = IWS v1.3
V1.5 (web services) = IWS v1.5
V2.6 (web services) = IWS v2.6
This example shows the server type is IAS v7.1.
The is example shows the server type is IWS v2.6.

IWS/IAS servers are composed of 3 different LPPs: 57xxSS1, 57xxDG1, and 57xxJV1. Below, we will describe the different levels of support for these LPPs at IBM i 6.1 and later related to the IWS/IAS products.
Please refer to the table below which defines each level of support.

Not supported = This server type and version will not function since the required JDK version is no longer provided with the IBM i OS VRM. |
Best effort support = A valid extended service contract exists for the IBM i OS VRM, clients can create IBM Support cases and support will assist the best they can. No defect or development support is available. |
Full support = A valid support contract exists for the IBM i OS VRM, defect and development support is available. |
IBM i 7.3, 7.4, & 7.5
IWS v2.6 and IAS v8.5 versions are fully supported.
IBM i 7.2
Beginning on January 1st, 2018; best effort support is provided for the following IBM i 7.2 LPPs.
5770JV1 Option 11 and 12
All IWS v2.6 and IAS v8.5 servers running JDK 7.0 or later are fully supported.

5770JV1 Option 11 and 12
All IWS v2.6 and IAS v8.5 servers running JDK 7.0 or later are fully supported.
IBM i 7.1
Beginning on January 1st, 2018; best effort support is provided for the following IBM i 7.1 LPPs.
5770DG1 Option *BASE
5770JV1 Option 8, 9, 11 and 12
As a result, only the IWS/IAS server runtime, APIs, IWS web services generated Java code, scripts, and WebAdmin-related functions have full support as long as the IWS/IAS server is running on JDK 7.0 or later. The HTTP Server component of the IWS/IAS server has only best effort support.

No Support is available since IBM i 6.1 is no longer supported by IBM.
If you are currently running IWS v1.3/1.5 or IAS v7.1/8.1; IBM highly recommends you upgrade to IWS v2.6 or IAS v8.5 BEFORE you upgrade to IBM i 7.3 or later. Refer to the following document for further information regarding an IWS migration, How To Migrate Your IBM Integrated Web Services (IWS) Server From v1.3/v1.5 to v2.6. For the IAS product, there is no direct migration method. You would need to create a new IAS v8.5 server, re-deploy your applications, and setup the necessary configurations.
Since IBM JDK 5.0/6.0/6.2.6 are no longer fully supported , IBM highly recommends all IWS/IAS servers running at IBM i 7.1 and later be configured to run on JDK 8.0 64bit (5770JV1 Option 17). Please refer to IBM Technical document, How To Change The IBM Java Development Kit (JDK) Version Used By an IBM Integrated Web Services (IWS) v2.6 Server or Integrated Application Server (IAS) v8.5 Server, for more information on how to change your Java version for your IWS/IAS server.
Please refer to the table below for detailed information regarding the level of support of each component of the IWS/IAS product on the IBM i OS.
