Release Notes
Abstract
To protect IBM Storage Insights against emerging security vulnerabilities, your service was updated between 31 May and 14 June. As part of this update, data collectors now include the latest Java security updates and fixes for all the related security vulnerabilities reported by IBM X-Force Exchange.
Content
What to do
If your data collectors were upgraded automatically, no action is required. If your data collectors were not upgraded, you must manually upgrade them to benefit from the security fixes. To manually upgrade your data collectors, ensure that you have the Administrator role and click Upgrade on the Configuration > Data Collectors page.
To verify that the upgrades were successful, check the Status value on the Data Collectors page. If you encounter issues or the upgrades failed, you can get help in the IBM Documentation for IBM Storage Insights.
Details
After you upgrade your data collectors, you're protected against the following vulnerabilities:
-
CVE-2021-4160: A carry propagation bug exists in the MIPS32 and MIPS64 squaring procedure for OpenSSL on MIPS platforms. A cyberattacker might leverage this vulnerability to gain unauthorized access to the system. This issue is fixed in OpenSSL 3.0.1 (Affected 3.0.0), OpenSSL 1.1.1m (Affected 1.1.1-1.1.1l), and OpenSSL 1.0.2zc-dev (Affected 1.0.2-1.0.2zb). Details: https://exchange.xforce.ibmcloud.com/vulnerabilities/218394
-
CVE-2022-1292: OpenSSL might allow a remote, authenticated cyberattacker to execute arbitrary commands on the system, caused by improper validation of user-supplied input by the c_rehash script. This vulnerability occurs because the c_rehash script does not properly sanitize shell meta characters to prevent command injection. This script is distributed by some operating systems and automatically executed. On these operating systems, a cyberattacker might execute arbitrary commands with the privileges of the script. Fixed in OpenSSL 3.0.3 (Affected 3.0.0,3.0.1,3.0.2). Fixed in OpenSSL 1.1.1o (Affected 1.1.1-1.1.1n). Fixed in OpenSSL 1.0.2ze (Affected 1.0.2-1.0.2zd). Details: https://exchange.xforce.ibmcloud.com/vulnerabilities/225619
-
CVE-2021-35550: A vulnerability in Java SE related to the JSSE component might allow an unauthenticated cyberattacker to obtain sensitive information. This vulnerability can result in a high confidentiality impact that uses unknown attack vectors. Details: https://exchange.xforce.ibmcloud.com/vulnerabilities/211627
-
CVE-2021-35603: A vulnerability in Java SE related to the JSSE component might allow an unauthenticated cyberattacker to obtain sensitive information. This vulnerability can result in a low confidentiality impact that uses unknown attack vectors. Details: https://exchange.xforce.ibmcloud.com/vulnerabilities/211676
