IBM Maximo Application Suite follows the IBM Continuous Delivery (CD) Lifecycle Policy.
IBM Maximo Application Suite follows the IBM Continuous Delivery (CD) Lifecycle Policy.
Overview
The intent of the IBM Maximo Application Suite support lifecycle policy is to balance the desire to bring new capabilities and innovation to IBM clients quickly, with the need to offer longer term support in situations where minimal change is important. To understand the policy, it is important to distinguish between releases under support and releases maintained. For clients to receive fixes it is essential to stay on maintained releases. The IBM Maximo Application Suite support lifecycle policy is based on the IBM Continuous Delivery (CD) Lifecycle Policy.
How the IBM Maximo Application Suite Support Lifecycle Policy works
The IBM Continuous Delivery support model allows Maximo Application Suite to release new features more frequently. Both new features and product maintenance is made available in, easy-to-install update packages. Clients need to stay current with the installation of updates to obtain the latest product maintenance, security updates, and new features.
Versioning
The numbering scheme for versions of IBM Maximo Application Suite is based on the semver semantic versioning specification defined at: http://semver.org.
The numbering scheme for versions of IBM Maximo Application Suite is based on the semver semantic versioning specification defined at: http://semver.org.
The version numbering takes the form major.minor.patch with:
• MAJOR: Number changes indicate incompatible changes between releases
• MINOR: Number changes indicate a release with new functionality compatible with an earlier version
• PATCH: Number changes for bug fixes compatible with an earlier version

• PATCH: Number changes for bug fixes compatible with an earlier version
A MAJOR version release of IBM Maximo Application Suite signifies the start of a new IBM Continuous Delivery (CD) stream. New streams are available for a minimum of 2 years.
Once a CD stream has commenced, IBM releases regular updates to that stream that uses the MINOR version number. Each MINOR version receives product defect fixes and security updates while it remains one of the two most recent releases. Fixes and security updates are delivered through the PATCH version number.

On occasion, IBM may offer a Long Term Support release that uses the Minor version number. An LTS release is a normal release in every way except that it receives product defect fixes and security updates for a calendar period, specified in the announcement, regardless of other releases that may happen during that period. LTS releases give clients the option to stay on a specific version for a longer time to assist where frequent functional updates might not be practical. LTS releases also offer a more straightforward upgrade path from LTS release to LTS release.
IBM expects clients upgrade to either one of the two most recent CD releases or a maintained LTS release in order to receive on-going security updates and defect fixes.
Support Schedule for IBM Maximo Application Suite
IBM Maximo Application Suite does not commit to a specific release schedule. Software lifecycle transition announcements for a version will be announced at least six months before it becomes effective. If you require more technical support from IBM, including an extension of support beyond the lifecycle transition date, contact your IBM representative or IBM business partner.

Bundled Open Source Software
IBM Maximo Application Suite includes or bundles components derived from open source software and software from other IBM teams and Red Hat Inc. Support for such components is available through your usual IBM Support channels, with defined response goals. If a defect is determined to be in any IBM or Red Hat product, your IBM Support representative works with the owning teams to resolve the defect and deliver a fix. For open source software/third party support information, see the IBM Open Source and Third party software policy.
Bundled IBM and Red Hat software
Individual versions or releases of the bundled products continue to follow their own individual upstream support lifecycles. Some bundled products, such as IBM Cloud Pak for Data and IBM Watson Discovery, follow different support lifecycles than IBM Maximo Application Suite. IBM ensures that a suitable upgrade path is available for customers of IBM Maximo Application Suite such that bundled products can continue to comply with their respective support lifecycles.
For more information about the IBM Cloud Pak for Data components that are available to the licensee of IBM Maximo Application Suite for restricted use, see the License Information documents for Maximo Application Suite.
