You can obtain IBM® Automatic Binary Optimizer for z/OS® (ABO) or Automatic Binary Optimizer for z/OS Trial for both versions 2.2 and 2.1.
How to obtain ABO 2.2 or ABO 2.2 Trial :
To access the ABO 2.2 Trial Cloud, visit https://www.ibm.com/account/reg/signup?formid=urx-49350. You can then upload your COBOL modules to this site for optimization without the need to install ABO.
To obtain the ABO 2.2 official or on-premises trial version, you can order it via Shopz or contact your IBM representative to place the order for you.
To order from Shopz, enter the customer number that you use to manage software. All IBM customers have at least one customer number. Multiple customer numbers are frequently used to manage software on different systems. If you don't have a customer number, contact your IBM representative or get connected with a representative here.
IBM Subscription & Support (S&S) entitles you to world-class support for ABO. With S&S, you can open service requests for IBM, which are prioritized based on severity and addressed in documented turnaround times. Learn more details at IBM Enterprise Support and Preferred Care options for IBM Z.
Steps to order ABO or ABO Trial in Shopz:
After you login to Shopz, go to My orders, click Create new order, and use the following selections to purchase ABO:
- Select the radio button for Package category.
- Select one of the following options in the drop-down list. For more information about the differences in the ServerPac and CBPDO installation packages, see here.
- z/OS - Products = ServerPac (system, subsystem, or products)
- z/OS - Products = CBPDO (products)
- Press Continue.
- Optional: Name your order. Press Continue.
- Select your hardware system for installation. Press Continue.
- Optional: If your system inventory information is inaccurate, you can enter details and let Shopz know. Press Send.
- Press Continue.
- Select Do not use a report for this order, or optionally you can upload a report of your current software environment, and Shopz will tell you the required prerequisites.
- Press Continue.
- Shop for products. Under the Catalog view, select the following:
- Group: All groups
- Language: All languages
- Filter: Show all products
- Search field: Product ID
- Search for: 5697-AB2 (for ABO) or 5697-TR2 (for ABO on-premises trial)
- Click Show catalog
- Select 5697-AB2 or 5697-TR2 in the search results.
- Press Continue.
- Select the license.
- Specify delivery option. You are recommended to select the electronic download. If physical media is selected, ensure shipping information is accurate.
- Press Continue.
- Review the order and press Submit.
You will get a pricing notification for the product selected. If you ordered ABO Trial, the pricing is no charge.
During the installation of the ABO product, note the following requirements:
- If you are installing ABO Trial, you are required to also order and install the latest ABO Trial PTF from Shopz; otherwise, the ABO Trial will not function correctly.
- If you are installing ABO, you are highly recommended to also order and install the latest ABO PTF from Shopz.

How to obtain ABO 2.1 or ABO 2.1 Trial :
ABO 2.1 reached End of Marketing (EOM) on September 5, 2022. To obtain either ABO 2.1 or the ABO 2.1 Trial, an exception process is needed. Contact your IBM representative to request the exception for you.
