Capacity Backup Editions and Declaring a Disaster

Troubleshooting

Problem

This document points to documentation explaining what Capacity Backup Edition (CBU) is and how to declare a disaster.

Resolving The Problem

Documentation on Capacity Backup (CBU) can be found here:
IBM Power Systems: Capacity BackUp
https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/ibm-power-systems-capacity-backup

*Note1 - CPU License usage during a disaster: For IBM i OS, the CBU agreement and license terms allows client to temporarily "transfer" all but 1 core of IBM i license from the primary to the CBU during normal role swap operations or during DR event.  There are no changes on either system in regards to the license keys for IBM i OS.  The client is allowed to ignore the non compliance messages when IBM i usage exceeds the usage limit on the CBU machine provided that the usage does not exceed what the primary and CBU are licensed for.  Example, Primary is licensed for 12 cores of IBM i OS.  CBU is licensed for 1 core of IBM i OS.  During role swap or fail over, the CBU usage may increase from 1 to 12, while the primary decreases from 12 to 1.  1 license must remain on the primary.  There is no key issued for the increased usage.  Instead, non-compliance messages will be displayed and client may ignore them until they revert back to the primary. Temporary License Keys for non-OS LPPs can be requested from the IBM Key Center at wwswkeys@dk.ibm.com. If not actively recovering the primary system or DR testing, then the keys should be formally transferred.
*Note2 - Disaster Recovery Testing:  Allowed for up to three consecutive days, four times per year per hosted client
