Question

How do you submit a new Idea, previously known as request for enhancement (RFE), to let IBM know what changes you would like made to IBM Z Software products like CICS Transaction Server for z/OS (CICS TS), IBM Developer for Z, and IMS?  How do you vote for an existing Idea to increase the chances of IBM taking the action requested in the Idea?

The IBM Ideas Portal provides you with a way to give IBM teams, like the CICS development team, feedback as to where you would like them to make changes and improvements to products. It also allows you to collaborate with other users by browsing all Ideas, voting on them, and adding comments. Your vote and comments can add weight to an Idea and help refine the solution. This helps IBM development make sure that they are working on what you, the customer, wants. 
In addition to the product itself, you can submit Ideas to ask for and vote for significant changes to the product documentation. Ideas are ideal if you want more extensive changes like updates to an entire section or subject in IBM Docs. For small changes, like a broken link, it is best to click on the thumbs up or the thumbs down to the right of "Was this topic helpful?" on the page in IBM Docs. Then you will be given the option to enter a comment. Either way, the feedback goes to the documentation team. 
 
The only requirement for submitting or voting for an enhancement request is that you log on with your IBMid. This ensures that you have a legitimate email account and a company name.

As of March 2022, all existing RFEs for IBM Z Software products were migrated from the IBM Request for Enhancement (RFE) Community to the IBM Z Software Ideas portal.
 



 

Steps to submit a new Idea

When you create a new Idea using the following instructions, you can use the "Additional Details" field to prevent at least part of the information you share with IBM from being public. But, if you would like your entire Idea to be private, you can use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (for any IBM product) and select "Visible only to IBM" when you "Add a New Idea".

  1. Go to the IBM Z Software Ideas portal to post an Idea that is "visible to everyone"
  2. Click ADD A NEW IDEA
  3. When prompted, sign in with your email address that is associated with your IBMid then a form displays
  4. Type in the "workspace" field to display product names (for example, type "CICS" to see "CICS Transaction Server for z/OS" and the other CICS products).
  5. If similar Ideas display as you enter your Idea:
    1. Click on the Title of an Idea to display the details about the Idea (right click to open in a new tab) 
    2. If you find an Idea that is the same as your Idea, click VOTE to add your vote to the existing Idea
    3. If the details of your use case are different from the raiser, click on "Add a comment" to add a "public" comment (contact a support engineer or technical sales representative to add "private" comment)
    4. Click Subscribe to be notified of when the status of the Idea changes
  6. If there are no similar Ideas:
    1. Select a category for the Idea from the drop-down (for example: select "Runtime" for general CICS updates, select "Explorer" for CICS Explorer , otherwise select "Other")
    2. Complete the remaining fields and if there is any information that you do NOT want to display to the public include it in "Additional Details"
    3. Click ADD IDEA

Steps to vote for an existing Idea

  1. Go to the IBM Z Software Ideas portal
  2. Sign in using your IBMid
  3. Enter in search terms relating to the topic you are interested
  4. To limit your search results by product, click a product name (like "CICS Transaction Server for z/OS") under "FILTER BY CATEGORY"
  5. Click the Title of an Idea to view more details about the Idea
  6. Click VOTE to add your vote to the Idea
  7. If the details of your use case are different from the raiser, click on "Add a comment" to add a "public" comment (contact a support engineer or technical sales representative to add "private" comment)
  8. Click Subscribe to be notified of when the status of the Idea changes
