Background information

IBM Intelligent Video Analytics helps increase the efficiency of physical security, public safety operations and infrastructure management by turning digital video from an external video management system (VMS) into valuable information. IBM Intelligent Video Analytics version 1.6 includes the following capabilities:

• Integrated video management
• Real-time video analytics
• Video metadata indexing and search
• Event cross correlation
• Advanced event visualization
• Advanced system management capabilities
  

IBM Intelligent Video Analytics V1.6 consists of two main software components, Middleware for Large Scale Surveillance (MILS) and Smart Surveillance Engine (SSE). An operator client and an administrator client are also provided.

IBM Intelligent Video Analytics is highly extensible and is able to incorporate and pass data to and from other sensors, sources, and solutions. The analytic capabilities of Intelligent Video Analytics can be enhanced further through integration with external facial recognition and license plate recognition systems.

Planning the deployment
Before you install IBM Intelligent Video Analytics V1.6, plan the deployment to ensure that your system meets the operational requirements of your organization. For more information, see Planning the solution in the IBM Knowledge Center for Intelligent Video Analytics V1.6.0.

System requirements
The MILS component of IBM Intelligent Video Analytics V1.6 can be installed and run on either Microsoft Windows Server 2008 32-bit edition or SUSE Linux Enterprise Server operating systems. The SSE component can be installed and run on either Windows Server 2008 32-bit edition or Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise 64-bit edition operating systems. Important prerequisite steps

• Check that the operating system language environment of all servers is set to English.
• Check that all servers and clients in the environment can communicate with each other.
• Check that the necessary certification for the installation of DB2® is available. DB2 version 9.7 is digitally signed with "VeriSign Class 3 Public Primary Certification Authority - G5". This certificate must be installed before you install IBM Intelligent Video Analytics. For more information, see DB2 Installation Error 1330 - DB2 9.7 FP8.

Upgrading from an earlier release

You can upgrade an existing IBM Intelligent Video Analytics V1.5 system to V1.6. For more information, see Installing the solution in the IBM Knowledge Center for Intelligent Video Analytics V1.6.0.

Installing the solution

Before you start to install the product, check the IBM Intelligent Video Analytics Support Portal for the latest information about fixes and for additional installation instructions that might be required for your deployment.

Integrating a VMS

IBM Intelligent Video Analytics consumes live streaming and recorded video from external third-party video management systems (VMS). For more information, see Installing and configuring a VMS in the IBM Intelligent Video Analytics V1.6.0 Knowledge Center.

Downloading and assembling the product

Log on to the IBM Passport Advantage Online website and download the eAssembly that contain the required installation media.
