Detailed Instructions to Update or Install IBM InfoSphere Optim 11.3.0 to the Latest Fix Pack
IBM InfoSphere Optim solution version 11.3.0 fix pack 8 (also known as 11.3.0.8) is available for both editions (Enterprise and Workgroup) of the following products:
- Optim Archive
- Optim Data Privacy
- Optim Test Data Management
as well as all variations of the following solutions:
- Optim Data Growth Solution
- Optim Solution for Application Retirement
- Optim Test Data Management Solution
I. Updating From a Prior IBM InfoSphere Optim 11.3.0 Fix Pack
Installing this fix pack:
For this fix pack, the following components can be updated:
- Optim Designer
- Optim Runtime Services
- WebSphere Application Server Community Edition (WASCE)
- Optim Web Applications
- Optim Masking on Demand
Please note the following:
- When updating the Optim Runtime Services component from a previous release, Installation Manager renames the current rt directory prior to installing the new version. The name of the directory will be in the format of rt_YYYY.MM.DD where YYYY.MM.DD represents the date you performed the update.
- If your installation uses any custom code, like a user exit, you will need to copy those files from the "rt_YYYY.MM.DD\bin" directory to the new rt\bin directory before you can use Optim.
- When updating to a fix pack prior to 11.3.0.7, sometimes the above automated backup fails to occur. This was addressed in the Optim 11.3.0.7 fix pack. For this reason, if you are updating to any fix pack prior to 11.3.0.7, make a backup copy of the rt\bin folder to preserve any files you may have modified that are in it. After the update completes, copy these files from the backup to the rt\bin directory. Examples of files to be copied are:
- *.LIC
- rtsetenv
- pr0pass
- *.cfg
- If you have configured WASCE to use LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol), perform the following steps to backup and restore this configuration:
- Backup the following directories:
- <optim-install-directory>\shared\WebSphere\AppServerCommunityEdition\var\config
- <optim-install-directory>\shared\WebSphere\AppServerCommunityEdition\repository\com\ibm\nex\com.ibm.nex.unified.app.war\11.3.0\com.ibm.nex.unified.app.war-11.3.0.war\META_INF
- <optim-install-directory>\shared\WebSphere\AppServerCommunityEdition\repository\console\real
- Upgrade WASCE following the installation instructions below
- Restore the directories in step 1 from the backup location to the <optim-install-directory>
- Reconfigure LDAP from WASCE by referencing the security realm and the plan from steps 1.2 and 1.3 above
- Backup the following directories:
Installation Instructions:
There are 2 alternatives to install the update, both of which use IBM Installation Manager:
A) Use IBM Installation Manager to directly download the fix pack from IBM and apply it. An internet connection is required on each machine where Optim is installed for this alternative.
B) Use IBM Installation Manager to point to a local copy of the fix pack. Download the fix pack using a machine that has an internet connection and then move the fix pack to the machines where Optim is installed. Then use IBM Installation Manger to install it.
Here are the detailed instructions for each alternative:
A) Use IBM Installation Manager to directly download the fix pack from IBM and apply it. This method requires an external internet connection on the host machine containing one or more Optim component.
Use the following instructions:
- Shut down all Optim components, including WASCE.
- Start Installation Manager. If you have multiple instances of Installation Manager installed, make sure you choose the one used to install Optim.
- On the main Installation Manger window, select File->Preferences, then Repositories.
- At the bottom of the Installation Manager Repositories window, ensure the check box "Search service repositories during installation and updates." is selected.
- Select OK to save the settings and close the window.
- On the main Installation Manger window, select the Update icon.
- On the Update Packages window, select one of the following:
- "IBM InfoSphere” package group for machines where Optim Designer is installed

- Select the checkbox “Update all packages with recommended updates and fixes”. This option will update all installed components simultaneously.
- Select the Next button.
- On the next window, ensure that the appropriate fix pack is selected for the version or versions of Optim that are installed on your machine.
- Follow the wizard to complete the installation of the fix pack.
NOTES:
1. You must be at Optim version 11.3 (or any Optim 11.3 fix pack).
2. If you only updated one package group, repeat this process for each Optim package group (IBM InfoSphere, IBM Optim Runtime, IBM Optim Shared) that is installed on the machine.
3. All Optim components must be at the same fix pack level, whether or not they are running on the same machine.
4. Repeat these steps on each machine that contains an Optim component.
B) Use IBM Installation Manager to point to a local copy of the fix pack.
Use the following instructions:
