Collect troubleshooting data for EAR or Advanced Snapshot deployments in Business Automation Workflow (BAW)

Troubleshooting


Problem

You are having a problem deploying or removing SCA EAR applications or BLAs related to Business Automation Workflow snapshot advanced content. You would like to know what documentation you must collect (MustGather) so that the IBM Business Automation Workflow Support team can diagnose your problem. Gathering this documentation before contacting support it will expedite the troubleshooting process.

Resolving The Problem

Collect the following troubleshooting data for EAR or Advanced Snapshot deployments
  • Business Impact
  • Problem description
  • Environment description
Diagnostic logs and trace files
EAR file or TWX export file 
  • For EAR deployment issue, provide the EAR file and information on how the EAR was created
  • For snapshot deployment with advanced content, provide the TWX export of the snapshot 
As needed diagnostic information 
  • dmgr_profile/config directory
  • node_profile/installedApps directory from custom nodes
What to do next
  • Review the log files and traces to determine the source of the problem
  • Use Business Automation Workflow documentation or the support site to search for known issues
  • Open a support case and add the troubleshooting data to the case. You can also upload the data to ECURep. See this link for details for ECURep data upload

General Diagnostic Information

Provide a detailed description of the problem with the steps that lead up to the issue whenever possible.
The description needs to answer the following questions:
  • Was there any changes before the issue occurring?
  • Is this a new environment?
  • Is the issue intermittent or recreatable? If intermittent, how often does it occur?
  • How does the issue impact your business?
  • Are there any deadlines that are affected by this problem?
  • Is the related Workflow Center or Workflow Server clustered?
  • Is this an EAR deployment or snapshot deployment with EAR content?
  • Has the application been uninstalled and re-installed?

Collect log and trace files

Follow the steps to collect the log and trace files from deployment manager profile and all custom node profiles with application cluster members:
  1. Enable WebSphere Application Server runtime trace for the specific error condition
  2. Recreate the issue
  3. Turn of the trace
  4. Compress the dmgr_profile/logs directory
  5. Compress the node_profile/logs with application cluster members
NOTE: If the log and trace files are enabled to custom locations, then provide the log and trace files from those locations
 

Enable WebSphere Application Server runtime trace

Enable the following trace options for different type of error conditions:

Note: Enabling trace might slow down your system. Thus, enable it only for the necessary timeframe. This delay can lead to transaction timeouts and errors.
