Abstract

OSP QWTWLCGRP ALLOW USE OF WILDCARD (*) IN SUBSYSTEM NAME

Error Description

Data area QWTWLCGRP is limited to 100 subsystem/workload group
pairs.

Problem Summary

The data area used to associate subsystems with workload groups
(QWTWLCGRP) is limited to 100 subsystem/workload group pairs.

Problem Conclusion

This PTF will allow the use of a wildcard (asterisk) in the
subsystem name so that one subsystem/workload group pair in the
data area can be used to associate multiple subsystems with one
workload group. This will allow the user to 'assign' a workload
group to more than 100 subsystems if the subsystems are named in
a way such that generic names would reduce the number of entries
required.

For example, if you want subsystems ABC1, ABC2, ABC12 and ABC13
to all use Workload group ABCGROUP, you can set up the QWTWLCGRP
as follows:

CHGDTAARA DTAARA(QSYS/QWTWLCGRP) VALUE('ABC*       ABCGROUP  ')

instead of typing each subsystem name and group separately.

When starting a subsystem, if there is more than one name (or
generic name) listed in the data area that matches the subsystem
name, it will use the first one it finds in
the list. So you need to put the most specific names ahead of
the least specific names when there is more than one subsystem
name/workload group name pair that will match the subsystem.

For example if you only want ABC1, ABC2 and ABC12 to use
ABCGROUP and you want ABC13 to use SYSGROUP, you can either list
each subsystem name and group (4 pairs total), or you can list
just 2 pairs as follows, with the most specific name first and
the generic
name last.
CHGDTAARA DTAARA(QSYS/QWTWLCGRP) VALUE('ABC13      SYSGROUP
ABC*       ABCGROUP  ')
