How To

Summary

Provide instructions how to collect AIX or AIX VIOS snap data for IBM Support Agents.

Objective

Provide customers and IBM Support agents steps to collect AIX or AIX VIOS snap data for upload to Enhanced Customer Data Repository (ECuRep) for IBM Support analysis.

Environment

AIX Servers, AIX Server Partitions, and AIX VIOS Partitions

Steps

Follow these steps to collect AIX or AIX VIOS system snap data for hardware case analysis:

AIX Login as: root
-- or --
AIX VIOS Login as: padmin
Become root, at the $ Prompt enter:
   $ oem_setup_env

1. Delete previous snap information (reply yes if asked ),
    at root # Prompt enter:
    # snap -r
2. Create snap data files, at root # Prompt enter:

NOTE: For VIO Servers if Hardware Needs to escalate to engage VIO Software team, we need a complete snap from padmin using below:
$ snap ( data in /home/padmin/snap.pax.Z)

This is the info needed in order to remap or rebuild mappings.

Step 4 Notes:
Use the CASE number TS00nnnnnnn from IBM Support Agent

Replace "hostname" with the hostname of the Server Partition
the snap data was created in.
Example: # mv -i snap.pax.Z TS00nnnnnnn.HostServerName.snap.pax.Z

4. Rename the file, at root # Prompt enter:
    # mv -i snap.pax.Z TS00nnnnnnn.HostServerName.snap.pax.Z

Upload the snap file to IBM:
All servers enforce authentication. You need to authenticate with your IBMid.  If you do not have one yet, register here
Proceed to step.1 if you have an IBMid, otherwise create an IBMid.
1. Login with your IBMid to Create and record the Transfer ID and Password.
Tip: Open a new browser window or tab
IBM Support File Transfer ID Management for FTPS and SFTP servers to create an IBM Support File Transfer ID
    Example:
   image 8611
2. At root # prompt log in to the sftp server by using the user Transfer ID Example
    # sftp E-ma4BftDFdL@sftp.ecurep.ibm.com
3. Enter your Transfer ID Password Example:
    E-ma4BftDFdL@sftp.ecurep.ibm.com's password:
4. Change directory, at the sftp Prompt enter:
     sftp> cd /toibm/aix
5. Put the file, at the sftp Prompt enter:
     sftp> put TS00nnnnnnn.HostServerName.snap.pax.Z
5. After the transfer is complete, at the sftp> enter:
     sftp> bye
