Follow the network operating system (NOS) installation instructions provided in this document in sequential order unless these instructions advise you differently. Windows and messages might differ from those described in this document. Throughout this document, the term Select denotes the use of arrow keys to highlight and choose a menu item.

1.0 Before installing Windows 2000
This document provides Netfinity 5000 system users with the installation instructions for a basic Windows 2000 Server installation. Windows 2000 Server presents many different installation options. The user may install or uninstall options that will allow maximum performance from their Netfinity 5000 Server. This may result in windows and messages that will differ from those described in this document. To ensure that Windows 2000 is installed correctly complete the following instructions. Windows 2000 allows users to install components after the installation is completed. If your system is configured with an IBM ServeRAID adapter review 4.0 Appendix before continuing with 2.0 Installation instructions.
- Insert the Windows 2000 Setup CD into the CD-ROM drive and restart system. The system will start from the Windows 2000 Setup CD.
- The Windows 2000 setup window will display after a short delay. Windows 2000 Setup will take a few minutes to load. The Welcome to Setup window will display at the top right corner. Press Enter to install Windows 2000 Server.
- The Windows 2000 licensing Agreement will display. Read the licensing agreement, press the Page Down key to scroll to the bottom of the window. Press F8 to select I Agree.

Windows 2000 Setup will display all hard disk drive storage available on the system. You may choose an existing partition or create a new partition in which to install Windows 2000 Server. Choose one of the following three options:
- Allowing Setup to create a partition: Press Enter when you highlight non-partitioned space on your hard disk drive. Setup will partition the entire disk to create one primary partition.
- Create a Partition: Highlight non-partitioned space on your hard disk drive. Press the C key. Type the amount of hard disk drive (in megabytes) when prompted for how much room you want to allocate from the non-partitioned space on your hard disk drive and press Enter.
- Deleting a Partition: Only select this option if there are partitions that need to be permanently deleted to allow enough space to create new partitions. You should not have to use this option because new IBM systems are not partitioned.
- Select the NTFS file system when prompted to select a file system, unless you have a dual boot system with an operating system that does not support NTFS.
- Windows Setup will now begin formatting the selected partition and copying files onto the selected partition. This process will take several minutes.
- The system restarts. The graphical user interface (GUI) phase of the Windows 2000 Setup Wizard appears. The Welcome Window appears when Windows 2000 is fully loaded.
- Click Next to continue.
- Windows setup will automatically install and configure devices in the computer. This process will take several minutes.
- The default Regional Settings are U.S. Change the REgional settings as appropriate. Click Next to continue.
NOTE: Regional Settings can be modified after Windows 2000 has been installed by clicking on Regional Options in the Control Panel.
- Enter your name in the Name field and your organization in the Organization field when the Personalize Your Software window appears. This information will be used to generate the system's default name. Applications installed on the system later will use this information for the product registration and document identification. Click Next to Continue.
- Enter the Windows 2000 Setup CD Key in the appropriate fields. Click Next to proceed.
- Select the appropriate Licensing Mode for your organization when the Licensing Modes window appears. Click Next to continue.
- Enter the system's name and password when the system Name and Administrator Password window appears. Click Next to continue.
NOTE: The Windows 2000 Setup Wizard uses the system name you entered in step 11. Passwords are case sensitive. A combination of upper and lower case letters with at least one number is recommended.
- Select or deselect components for installation. To install a component, select the checkbox next to the component. Components not selected will not be installed. Click Next to continue.

Set the current time for Windows 2000 when the Time Zone window appears. Click on Next to continue. To change the time and date complete the following steps:
- Highlight the value you want to change and enter the correct values.
- Click on the button to the right of a date to change the date.
WARNING: Windows 2000 services are dependent on correct system time and date settings.
- Select either Typical or Custom settings as appropriate when the Networking Settings window appears. Click Next to begin installing Windows networking components.
NOTE: If you are in doubt about the correct networking information to enter, consult your Network Administrator.

Select one of the following options when the Workgroup or Computer Domain window appears. Click Next to continue:
- No, this computer is not on a network, it is a network without a domain. Type a workgroup name in the following box
- Yes, make this computer a member of the following domain. Type the workgroup or domain name in box.
- The Installing Component window appears indicating the install progress and status. The remaining operating system components will be installed according to the options you specified. This will take several minutes.
- The Performing Final Tasks window appears. This will take several minutes.
- Remove the Windows Server CD from the CD-ROM drive and click Finish.
Windows 2000 restarts and runs the newly installed version of Windows 2000 Server. - Press and hold Ctrl+Alt+Delete to logon when prompted.
- The Windows 2000 configure your Server Wizard appears. This wizard will assist you in configuring any additional Windows 2000 components on your server according to the options you specified.
3.0 Installing additional unknown drivers
- Right-click My Computer, select Manage, and click Device Manager.
NOTE: One unknown device may be the Service Processor. The other unknown device may be the Active PCI interface. Alternatively, other PCI Bridge or unknown device maybe listed for the Active PCI interface.
Not all servers are configured with Active PCI or the Advanced System Management Processor (Service Processor). Click here to review Servers - Supported Active PCI Adapters for Windows 2000 and Servers - File and device driver downloads.
3.1 Advanced System Management Processor (Service Processor)
To install the Advanced System Management Processor (Service Processor) device driver complete the following steps:
- Insert the Advanced System Management Processor driver diskette into the diskette drive.
NOTE: Click here to download the Advanced System Management Processor driver diskette.
- Right-click on one of the unknown devices. Select Properties then click on Update Driver.
- Click Next when the Welcome to Upgrade Device driver Wizard appears.
- Deselect everything except the Floppy Disk Drive when the Optional Search Location window appears. Click Next.
- Click Next to install the driver when the System found a driver for device prompt appears.
- Select Yes if you do not have any more unknown devices to install when prompted to restart the server. Select No if you still have an unknown device to install.
3.2 Installing the IBM Active PCI (Hot-Plug) device driver
To install the Active PCI device driver complete the following steps:
- Insert the Active PCI driver diskette into the diskette drive.
NOTE: Click here to download the Active PCI Device Driver diskette.
- Right-click on one of the unknown devices. Select Properties then click on Update Driver.
- Click Next when the Welcome to Upgrade Device driver Wizard appears.
- Deselect everything except the Floppy Disk Drive when the Optional Search Location window appears. Click Next.
- Click Next to install the driver when the System found a driver for device prompt appears.
- Select Yes if you do not have any more unknown devices to install when prompted to restart the server. Select No if you still have an unknown device to install.
To install the IBM ServeRAID controller on systems configured with IBM ServeRAID 3L, 3H, or 4H as your primary controller complete the following steps.
To install the IBM ServeRAID controller on systems configured with IBM ServeRAID 4L or 4M continue with 4.3 Installing IBM ServeRAID 4L and 4M device drivers
NOTE: Setting configurations for the IBM ServeRAID adapter should be done before the installation of Windows 2000.
4.2 Installing IBM ServeRAID 3L, 3H, or 4H device drivers
- Insert the IBM ServeRAID CD into the CD-ROM drive immediately after the system has restarted.
- The IBM ServeRAID window will appear followed by a window indicating the current BIOS and firmware levels. Click Update to update the BIOS and firmware levels if necessary, if not, continue with step 4.
- Restart the system when prompted.
NOTE: Do not remove the IBM ServeRAID CD from the CD-ROM drive.
- The system will boot from the IBM ServeRAID CD, the IBM ServeRAID utilities will start. The IBM ServeRAID utilities will be used to create and initialize the ServeRAID logical disks.
NOTE: IBM ServeRAID disks must be created and initialized in order for partitions to be visible to Windows 2000. Click here for more information on initializing and creating partitions.
- Remove the IBM ServeRAID CD and insert the Windows 2000 CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. Restart the system and continue with step 2, 2.0 Installation instructions.
- Continue with step 7, 4.2 Installing IBM ServeRAID 3L, 3H, or 4H device drivers when Windows 2000 Server has been installed, to update the ServeRAID 3x/4H driver.

WARNING: Device drivers that are not digitally signed will be overwritten by the installation of the Windows 2000 Service Pack. ServeRAID will not function without a digitally signed driver.
To install the IBM ServeRAID device driver complete the following steps:- Insert the IBM ServeRAID device driver diskette into the diskette drive.
- Follow the onscreen instructions
- Right-click My Computer, select Manage, and click Device Manager. A list all devices installed on the system appears. Double-click SCSI and RAID controllers.
- Double-click IBM ServeRAID Adapter. The IBM ServeRAID Adapter properties window appears.

Click on theDrivers tab. The following IBM ServeRAID device driver details appear:
- Driver Provider
- Driver Date
- Driver Version
- Provider of Digital Signature
- Record the IBM ServeRAID device driver details for the system. The details will be used to verify if the IBM ServeRAID device driver has been updated and whether the updated device driver has a digital signature.
- Click Update Driver to start the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard.
- Click Next to continue when the Welcome to the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard window appears.
- The IBM ServeRAID Adapter appears as the hardware device to upgrade. Select Search for a suitable driver for my device and click Next.
- Insert the IBM ServeRAID device driver diskette into the diskette drive, select the search location (location of the device driver) and click Next. A search will now be performed to locate the device driver. A closer match for the device (IBM ServeRAID Adapter) than the current driver will appear. Click Next to install the updated driver.
- Click Finish when the device driver installation is complete.
- Right-click My Computer, select Manage, and click Device Manager. A list all devices installed on the system appears. Double-click SCSI and RAID controllers.
- Double-click IBM ServeRAID Adapter. The IBM ServeRAID Adapter properties window appears.

Click on theDrivers tab. The following IBM ServeRAID device driver details appear:
- Driver Provider
- Driver Date
- Driver Version
- Provider of Digital Signature
- Compare the current IBM ServeRAID device driver details for the system with the device details you recorded in step 11. The comparison will verify if the IBM ServeRAID device driver has been updated and whether the updated device driver has a digital signature. - Restart the system after the device driver update has been completed.
4.3 Installing ServeRAID 4L and 4M device drivers
NOTE: Device drivers for the ServeRAID 4M and 4L controllers are automatically installed during the Windows 2000 installation.
- Insert the IBM ServeRAID CD into the CD-ROM drive immediately after the system has restarted.
- The IBM ServeRAID window will appear followed by a window indicating the current BIOS and firmware levels. Click Update to update the BIOS and firmware levels if necessary, if not, continue with step 4.
- Restart the system when prompted.
NOTE: Do not remove the IBM ServeRAID CD from the CD-ROM drive.
- The system will boot from the IBM ServeRAID CD, the IBM ServeRAID utilities will start. The IBM ServeRAID utilities will be used to create and initialize the IBM ServeRAID logical disks.

- Remove the IBM ServeRAID CD and insert Windows 2000 CD into the CD-ROM drive then, press and hold Ctrl+Alt+Delete to restart the server. After IBM ServeRAID disks have been created and initialized,
- Press F6 when the system has restarted. The Press Enter if you need to install a third party SCSI or RAID driver message appears.
NOTE: This message will appear immediately after the window background changes from black to blue. You will only have a few seconds to press F6.
- Press S to specify additional devices if necessary when prompted.
- Insert the IBM ServeRAID device driver diskette into the diskette driver when prompted to insert the Manufacturer's supplied hardware support diskette, then, press Enter.
WARNING: Device drivers that are not digitally signed will be overwritten by the installation of the Windows 2000 Service Pack. ServeRAID will not function without a digitally signed driver. Click here to download the latest IBM ServeRAID digitally signed device driver.
- Select IBM Netfinity 5000 ServeRAID 4M/4L Controller (Windows 2000), then, press the Enter key. The Setup is loading files (IBM Netfinity 5000 ServeRAID 4M/4L Controller (Windows 2000))… message appears. Press Enter to continue when prompted.
- Continue the Windows 2000 Server installation with step 4 under 2.0 Installation instructions.
4.4 Installing ServeRAID Manager
Ensure that the IBM ServeRAID Manager is installed on the Windows 2000 Server in order to maximize the performance of the installed IBM ServeRAID adapter.
To install IBM ServeRAID Manager complete the following steps:
- Insert the IBM ServeRAID CD into the CD-ROM drive.
- Exit all Windows programs and click Next when the Exit all windows programs before running the setup program message appears.
- The licensing Agreement will appear. Read the licensing agreement, click Yes to continue. Select the operating system to be used on the server. Click Next to continue.
- Select Yes, install service when the option to install the ServeRAID Manager Agent appears, and click Next to continue.
- Click Next to install ServeRAID Manager.
- Select the location for the installation of IBM ServeRAID Manager or accept the default location C:\ Program Files\Raidman. Click Next and setup installs ServeRAID Manager.
4.5 Installing Service Pack
Ensure that you have the latest operating system Service Pack installed on the system. Click here to download the latest Windows 2000 Service Pack from the Microsoft. Follow the onscreen instructions when downloading and installing the system Service Pack.

- Locate the system Service Pack files on your hard disk drive or supplied on a CD.
- Double-click Setup.exe or run Setup.
- Click Agree to accept the Licensing Agreement.
- Click Install.
- Restart the system when the installation has been completed.
