Check for SQL Services Pending:

After the application of an SQL services PTF during an IPL, the operating system sometimes needs to performs maintenance on SQL services shortly after the IPL. If an SQL service is used before the required maintenance has completed, the SQL service may not work properly.

An enhancement to QSYS2.ANALYZE_CATALOG has been made to check for this situation.  This is released with the following PTFs:
  • 7.4 PTF SJ06521; 7.5 PTF SJ06520; 7.6 PTF SJ06519

IBM Navigator for i can make use of ANALYZE_CATALOG to avoid using SQL services before the maintenance on SQL services has completed. This is turned ON by default.  Use the Check for SQL Services Pending option in Navigator under Serviceability > Connection Properties > GUI Preferences.

When turned on, before a user connection is made, Navigator will check for pending SQL service updates which could still be in progress after a Db2 PTF installation on IBM i 7.4 and later releases (with the required PTFs installed). This check ensures SQL services are fully ready before Navigator attempts to use them, preventing potential errors during the first 10 minutes after system startup following a Db2 PTF install. Default is on.
