A mobile solution for accessing IBM i is now available. Powered by IBM i Access for Web (5770XH2), you can now access IBM i resources from any mobile device that supports a browser.
Features include the ability to:
- view CPU utilization, page faults, disk utilization, disk pool usage, jobs, and operator messages on a dashboard
- view and manage jobs, messages, output queues, files, printers
- view PTFs and PTF Groups
- view, add, insert and update database records
- build, run, save SQL statements with an SQL wizard
- start one or more 5250 emulation sessions with the ability to reconnect even after a device power down
- extract data from a variety of IBM i resources into a table using optional column selection
- distribute and manage files to other users from a common download location
This capability is provided as part of 7.2 IBM i Access for Web (5770XH2) which can be installed on IBM i release 7.3, 7.2, 7.1 and 6.1. If you are using IBM i release 6.1 or 7.1, it is available on the Entitlement Software Support (ESS) website as feature 6289 under SS1.
Support
Here is all that is needed to enable this support:
- Install 7.2 5770XH2 on your IBM i system
- Load 5770XH2 PTF SI66718 (or supersede)
- Load the latest IBM i HTTP Group PTF for the IBM i release you are using:
- i7.2 - SF99713 (level 32 or later)
- i7.3 - SF99722 (level 19 or later)
- CFGACCWEB APPSVRTYPE(*INTAPPSVR) INSTANCE(*MOBILE)
- Access this URL from your mobile device: http://your_system_name:2001/iamobile/
- Sign on with your user id and password
Note: An IBM i Access Family license is required (5770XW1) in order to connect. This is the same license required for the other IBM i Access family products.
You must have a Software Maintenance Agreement (SWMA) to get support for problems and questions. Use the IBM Support portal to provide feedback or report a problem. For more information, see IBM Electronic Support and the IBM Support Portal (link resides outside of ibm.com). When you submit a problem, use 5770XH2 as the product and supply all information that pertains to the issue (ie: computer operating system, mobile device, etc), complete description of the problem and any data that is collected.
Frequently asked questions:
- Q: I am not able to connect to the above URL.
A: Make sure the HTTP ADMIN servers are running in QHTTPSVR subsystem. If they are not:
STRTCPSVR SERVER(*HTTP) HTTPSVR(*ADMIN) - Q: I get the following error message: "Context Root Not Found"
A: You need to run the CFGACCWEB command:
CFGACCWEB APPSVRTYPE(*INTAPPSVR) INSTANCE(*MOBILE) - Q: Can I configure this using Qshell (QSH)?
A: Yes.

cd /QIBM/ProdData/Access/Web2/install
cfgaccweb -appsvrtype \*INTAPPSVR -instance \*MOBILE - Q: When I run the CFGACCWEB command, I get the following error message:
"Not authorized to command CFGACCWEB in library QIWA2"
A: You must have *ALLOBJ special authority to use this command.
Similar error messages will occur when using the cfgaccweb Qshell script from QSH.
