How to Install the AFP Font Collection for IBM i Product (5733B45)

Troubleshooting

Problem

This document explains how to install the collection because it does not use the same method as old font packages.

Resolving The Problem

This document explains how to install the collection because it does not use the same method as old font packages.

The AFP Font Collection for IBM i product (5733B45) is the replacement for both Infoprint Fonts for Multiplatforms and the older AFP Font Collection (5648-B45). Unlike Infoprint Fonts or the old AFP Font Collection, this is a program product that is installed on an IBM i System, rather than a set of library that is restored using the Restore Library (RSTLIB) command.
Per information about optional features of licensed software and LPPs, there is no longer a charge for the AFP Font Collection (5733-B45). It is no longer necessary to order the package from an IBM Business Partner, Marketing or Sales Representative.
The font package is available from Entitled Systems Support (ESS) in the "IBM i evaluation and NLV download" section.  If further assistance is required on the ESS site, contact the ESS support team directly:  Contact ESS Support.

The following table lists the font library that is installed with each option or feature code of the product.

Each of these library names are already searched, by default, when printing a spooled file, so there should be no need to add these libraries to a library list.

Use RSTLICPGM command for 5733B45 *BASE and again for each Option you wish to install or use GO LICPGM Option 11.

To verify the fonts are installed, you should do the following:
1. Run WRKOBJ QFNT* and you should now see QFNTB45 library, plus the ones above associated with the other options chosen to install.
2. Use DSPLIB LIB(QFNT18) or WRKFNTRSC FNTRSC(QFNT67/*ALL), for example, to see the font resources in the library.

Notes Concerning Outline and Raster Fonts from the IBM AFP Font Collection for i

The IBM AFP Font Collection for i product (5733B45) provides options for both outline and raster fonts. IBM i supports both outline and raster fonts, but with some differences and some limitations, including:

o Version 3.1 of the AFP Font Collection for i replaces IBM AFP Font Collection for Workstations and OS/400 (product number 5648-B45), Version 2.1. Version 3.1 provides two features: AFP Outline Font Feature and AFP Raster Font Feature.
o The AFP Outline Font Feature provides resolution-independent outline fonts that require no conversion as printer resolutions increase. Also, they require only a small amount of storage space compared to raster fonts. The AFP Outline Font Feature includes larger character sets:

Euro support for Eastern European and Asia Pacific language
SAP support for Asia Pacific languages
GB 18030 support for China
JIS X0213 support for Japan

The AFP Outline Font Feature replaces the Infoprint Fonts for Multiplatforms (5648-E77) product and provides an upgrade for users of version 2.1 of the AFP Font Collection (5648-B45) product.
o Host Print Transform (HPT) supports both outline and raster fonts when converting spooled files to an ASCII printer data stream (such as HP PCL5e) or a graphic (such as TIFF or GIF).

300-pel raster fonts provides a performance benefit. However, the outline fonts provided by the IBM AFP Font Collection for i product support a larger character set.
o Transform Services (5770TS1) supports both outline and raster fonts when converting spooled files to PDF. However, the outline fonts provided by the IBM AFP Font Collection for i product are strongly recommended over raster fonts when using Transform Services.
o Print Services Facility/400 (PSF/400) supports both outline and raster fonts. However, the IPDS laser printer hardware used with PSF/400 may only support either outline or raster fonts. If using PSF/400 to print to IPDS laser printers, it is recommended that you could with the printer manufacturer, or the manufacturer of your IPDS emulation hardware or software, to determine whether raster fonts, outline fonts or both are supported.
o Infoprint Server for IBM i (product 5722IP1) supports DBCS raster fonts, but does not support DBCS outline fonts. If using Infoprint Server to convert DBCS spooled files to PDF, then the DBCS raster font options should be purchased.
