Abstract
From the general availability (GA) date of CICS TS 6.2 (June 14th 2024), the documentation for all releases of CICS TS Version 6 is consolidated into one set. The CICS TS 6.1 and CICS TS 6.2 documentation is referred to as “6.x”. This document explains where you can find the CICS TS 6.1 and 6.2 documentation, why the documentation was consolidated, how to distinguish between 6.1 and 6.2 documentation, and if CICS TS V5.x documentation is affected by these changes.

Where is CICS TS 6.1 and 6.2 documentation?
You can find both the CICS TS 6.1 and 6.2 documentation in IBM Docs at https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/cics-ts/6.x. In the past, you would have found separate links to documentation for CICS TS 6.1 and 6.2 on the CICS Transaction Server for z/OS documentation page at https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/cics-ts. Now, you will see one link for "CICS Transaction Server for z/OS 6.x".
Why is CICS TS 6.1 and 6.2 documentation consolidated?
The CICS TS 6.1 and 6.2 documentation is consolidated primarily to support finding the information through external search engines, such as Google or Bing. IBM knows that for most users, search engines are an important route into the CICS TS information.

The documentation for CICS TS 6.1 and 6.2 is over 95% the same, but search engines do not like duplicate content. When IBM publishes the documentation as separate releases, search engines identify the commonality and often choose to ignore the content. When ignored, the external search engines do not index the content, which means your search results will not include the desired information.
IBM can not control the behavior of external search engines. However, by following the search engine recommendations this improves the chances your search results will include the CICS documentation.
How do you know what information applies to release CICS TS 6.1 versus 6.2?
Within the 6.x documentation, the differences between CICS TS 6.1 and 6.2 documentation are highlighted with colored tags. If you do not see a tag, the information applies to both release 6.1 and 6.2. For information about these tags, see "Tags for highlighting applicability" in topic Conventions used in the documentation of the CICS TS documentation. The tags appear the same in HTML (IBM Docs) and PDFs.
Does IBM plan to consolidate CICS TS Version 5 documentation?
IBM is not changing the CICS TS 5.x documentation. The consolidation of CICS TS documentation only applies to CICS TS 6.1 and 6.2, and future releases.
