Abstract
OSP-OTHER REMOVE OBSOLETE QIBM SHARE FROM IBM I NETSERVER
Error Description
The QIBM share allows PC clients read/write share level access
to the /QIBM integrated file system path. The /QIBM path
contains user and product data that could be modified by
malicious software on client PCs if the file system permissions
are not configured securely or if the share is accessed by a
user with *ALLOBJ special authority.
Problem Summary
The QIBM share allows PC clients read/write share level access
to the /QIBM integrated file system path. The /QIBM path
contains user and product data that could be modified by
malicious software on client PCs if the file system permissions
are not configured securely or if the share is accessed by a
user with *ALLOBJ special authority.
Problem Conclusion
The QIBM share was added to the system as part of the install of
the IBM i Access for Windows (5770-XE1) product. The 5770-XE1
product is no longer supported, and this PTF will remove the
obsolete QIBM share.
Users who have software that depends on the QIBM share can
evaluate the security impact of re-adding the share as a
read-only share or contact the software vendor to request
sharing of a file system path that is limited to the software
product.
