Error description

  • Amos 23 documentation reads that to define servers in a
Redundant License Server environment, end-user should use the
tilde character (~) as the separator rather than use colon (:),
    which was the previous requirement.

Problem encountered is that Amos 23 (Graphics) and the
associated Commuter Utility will produce a licensing error when
    tilde is used:
     - Amos Graphics > No valid license (9,5)
     - Amos Commuter Utility > Error code: 5. The license server is
not RUNNING on the specified machine

As a test, we used different combinations of tilde and colon for
DaemonHost and LSHOST (it is known that we should not be using
this environment variable as Safenet has deprecated this
    function). Here are the results:

    ## Using (:) separator ##
    LSHOST + DaemonHost:
     - Amos Graphics > success
     - Amos Commuter Utility > success
    LSHOST only
     - Amos Graphics > success
     - Amos Commuter Utility > success
    DaemonHost only
     - Amos Graphics > No valid license (11,4)
     - Amos Commuter Utility > success

    ## Using (~) separator ##
    LSHOST + DaemonHost:
     - Amos Graphics > No valid license (9,5)
     - Amos Commuter Utility > Error code: 5. The license server is
not RUNNING on the specified machine
    LSHOST only
     - Amos Graphics > No valid license (11,4)
     - Amos Commuter Utility > Error code: 5. The license server is
not RUNNING on the specified machine
    DaemonHost only
     - Amos Graphics > No valid license (9,5)
     - Amos Commuter Utility > Error code: 5. The license server is
not RUNNING on the specified machine

It appears that the licensing component of Amos has not caught
up with the ones in Statistics, hence it is still looking for
the colon character as the separator.

Latest version of the Sentinel License Manager is being used to
    replicate this problem.

Documentation states to use tilde to separate servers, Amos
should accept these values and start as expected.

Local fix

  • Current workaround is to use a colon in DaemonHost of Amos 23
and then to check out a license with the Commuter Utility before
    starting Amos.
