Error description

  • When the IBM Sterling Transformation Extender (ITX) 11.0.2
Launcher is configured for 'Separate launcher processes', the
    following symptoms can occur:

    1. When attempting to remove a stopped MSL with the Launcher
Administrator utility, the System is removed (as can be observed
in the Management Console utility) but the log shows an
    exception.

    2. When attempting to add an MSL with the Launcher Administrator
utility, the log shows an exception, and the system does not
appear in the Management Console utility.

Problem summary

  • Users Affected:
IBM Transformation Extender users using ITX 11.0.2 who add or
modify MSL configurations while the Java Launcher service is
running with separate launcher processes enabled.

    Problem Description:
Launcher throws "Cannot format given Object as a Date" exception
while adding a new MSL when Java Launcher service is running.

    Platforms Affected:
    Windows

Problem conclusion

  • The issue was caused by an incorrect argument passed to
    MessageFormat.format() in EventServerImpl.java.

The resource string "UpdatingSystemSettings" expects a Date
object as the first argument for timestamp formatting, but only
the system name (String) was being passed.

The code has been corrected to pass both the Date and system
name as expected. This resolves the IllegalArgumentException and
allows MSL updates without restarting the Java Launcher service.

    Applies to:
    11.0.2.0

Fixed in the next service packs and releases.
