Abstract
LIC-DISK-UNPRED CANNOT ADD DS8000 DISK TO EXISTING ASP
END OF ABSTRACT
Error Description
Unable to add new DS8000 disks to an existing ASP. When using
SST to add disks to an existing ASP, the user is returned to
the main SST menu without adding the disks to the ASP. No
error message is displayed. This problem may occur when adding
DS8000 disks where a Metro-Mirror or Global-Mirror relationship
has been started for the disk since the partition was last
IPLed. The IBM i partition must be IPLed in order to add the
new disk units.
A timing condition may occur with DS8000 volumes when a PPRC
relationship is started for a volume that reported into the IBM
i without a PPRC relationship. The only recovery is to IPL the
partition so it re-discovers the volumes with the PPRC
relationship established.
Problem Summary
Please see the ERROR DESCRIPTION section.
Problem Conclusion
A PTF will be created to correct this problem. Apply the PTF to
prevent problems adding new DS8000 units to existing ASPs after
starting a Metro-Mirror or Global-Mirror relationship. If the
DS8000 volumes may be used for DS8000 HyperSwap, it is
recommended that Metro-Mirror relationships be started before
presenting the DS8000 volumes to the IBM i partition even with
this PTF applied. This practice conserves resources used by IBM
i when a transition to a new Metro-Mirror relationship occurs
while the IBM i is running.
