Abstract

LIC-OTHER-LOOP MACH POOL STORAGE EXHAUSTED WHEN PEX ACTIVE

Error Description

When an error is set to be filtered in Licensed Internal Code
logging, a VLOGFILTER task starts to be created. During the
task creation, Performance Data Collector encountered an error
requiring a VLOG to be generated, and subsequently filtered.
Again, the filter requires a VLOGFILTER to exist.
Since the original VLOGFILTER task did not complete, and so a
new task is created. This series of events continues, meanwhile
allocatiing Machine Pool storage, until Machine Pool storage
can no longer be allocated. Many other critical functions that
rely on Machine Pool storage can no longer function. The
system becomes non-responsive at that point.

Problem Conclusion

The Performance Data Collector is hooked in the task/process
create path. This is how PDC adds tasks/processes
to PEX collections when they are created while a collection is
active. PDC encountered an error attempting to add the
VLOGFILTER task a the collection. The LIC code is changed to
correct the error on the call to PDC to add a task/process to a
collection.
