Error description

  • While trying to access a tape device on Windows, DBT2036N or
SQL2036N is encountered. e.g. "db2 backup db sample to
\\.\tape0" results in the following error: SQL2036N The path for
the file or device "\\.\tape0" is not valid.
If this APAR is not applied, commands that require
the specification of a tape device name will fail.
Message stating SQL2036N The path for the file or
device "" is not valid OR DBT2036W Storing history file on tape
    failed. Reason: ""
Changes were made in DB2 9 to improve the syntax
checking for tape devices but unfortnately the syntax checking
was incorrect. The new syntax checking allowed for upper and
lower case tape device names but it incorrectly required the
specification of a trailing backslash: \\.\tape[digit]\ The
correct name for a Windows tape device is in the form of
    \\.\tape[digit]
