Error description

  • When you install DB2 9.5 Runtime Client using a response file it
    fails if there is a backslash ("\") at the end of the
    installation path that is the value of the FILE keyword in the
    response file.

    If there is a "\" at the end of the installation path, then when
    you try to install DB2 9.5 Runtime Client it does not get
    installed, and the installation log contains lines like this
    (substituting for DB2COPY3 the actual DB2 copy name, and
    substituting for C:\Program Files\IBM\SQLLIB_03 the actual
    installation path):

     1: ERROR:A DB2 copy, DB2COPY3, already exists at, C:\Program
     Files\IBM\SQLLIB_03. Specify another location for your new
     installation.
     1: ERROR:Unable to initialize the response file.

    This problem does not occur in DB2 releases before DB2 9.5.
    This problem does not occur with any product other than DB2
    Runtime Client.

Local fix

  • To work around the problem, remove the trailing "\" from the
    value of the FILE keyword in the response file.
    For example, replace
        FILE = C:\Program Files\IBM\SQLLIB_03\
    with
        FILE = C:\Program Files\IBM\SQLLIB_03
