Error description
When attempting to restore a queue manager from a backup that was created with an older version of the IBM MQ Appliance firmware, the command fails with the following error: mqa(mqcli)# mqrestore -f QM1.bak Creating a 4.00g MB file system for queue manager 'QM1'. AMQ6546E: An internal IBM MQ Appliance error has occurred. The mqrestore.c-fmt log located in the trace directory shows the following: 2022-10-03 15:18:28.404917117+02:00:1313718: { Entering mqrestore QM1.bak 0 2022-10-03 15:18:28.429495544+02:00:1313741: * ... 2022-10-03 15:18:29.380917752+02:00:1313741: Creating the queue manager file system 2022-10-03 15:18:29.383076896+02:00:1313741: amqqmutil -m 'QM1' -c -d 'QM1' -s '4.00g' -F -M 2022-10-03 15:18:29.394952420+02:00:1313741: Usage: amqqmutil - Queue manager configuration utility Create the logical volume for a queue manager amqqmutil -m QMgrName -c -d DirName -s VolumeSize [-E] [-F] [-M] ... 2022-10-03 15:18:29.493056539+02:00:1313718: mqrc -b amq6546 2022-10-03 15:18:29.503562058+02:00:1313718: AMQ6546E: An internal IBM MQ Appliance error has occurred. 2022-10-03 15:18:29.505606355+02:00:1313718: rc(0) 2022-10-03 15:18:29.509205676+02:00:1313718: } Leaving displayMessageForExitValue 113 2022-10-03 15:18:29.512848368+02:00:1313718: } Leaving mqrestore 113
Local fix
Manually specify the size of the queue manager filesystem on the mqrestore command with the -s option. For example: mqa(mqcli)# mqrestore -f QM1 -s 4 Creating a 4096 MB file system for queue manager 'QM1'. Queue manager 'QM1' successfully restored from backup file mqbackup:///QMgrs/QM1.bak.
Problem summary
**************************************************************** USERS AFFECTED: Queue managers backed up using an IBM MQ Appliance firmware older than version 9.1 may be affected by this issue. Platforms affected: MultiPlatform **************************************************************** PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: A change was made to the data format of the IBM MQ queue manager backup at IBM MQ 9.1. This change did not include the necessary code to handle backup files created using the older format and so older backup files could not be restored using the mqrestore command.
Problem conclusion
The mqrestore code was modified so that it was able to read the older data format of the IBM MQ queue manager backup file. --------------------------------------------------------------- The fix is targeted for delivery in the following PTFs: Version Maintenance Level v9.3 LTS 9.3.0.10 v9.x CD 9.3.4 The latest available maintenance can be obtained from 'WebSphere MQ Recommended Fixes' http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=171&uid=swg27006037 If the maintenance level is not yet available information on its planned availability can be found in 'WebSphere MQ Planned Maintenance Release Dates' http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=171&uid=swg27006309 ---------------------------------------------------------------
