To remove a hard disk drive from bays 5, 6, or 7:

  1. Remove the front door:
    • Open the door and pull the door away from the system to release the door pins from the hinge latches.
  2. Turn off the server and all attached peripheral devices.
  3. Disconnect all power cords and all external signal cables.
  4. For easier access to components, place the server on its side. This is the recommended service position.
  5. Remove the side cover.
    1. Pull the cover release latch away from the server and slide the cover towards the rear of the server.
    2. Lift the cover off the server and set it aside.
  6. Remove the side support bracket by lifting the bracket up from the rear to a 45-degree position, and disengage the locking tab at the front.
  7. Remove the hard disk drive.
    1. Gently lift the drive bay cage up until it locks into the open position.
    2. Disconnect the power cable and the SCSI cable from the selected drive. Note a non-hot-swap SCSI hard disk drive is shown here in bay 7.
    3. Release the latch and rotate the cage down to the closed position.
    4. Rotate the bay retainer up and remove it, then grasp the drive tray handle and gently pull the drive out of the bay.
    5. Remove the four screws securing the disk to the drive tray and remove the disk.
