Do these steps to update Integrated Management Module (IMM)
firmware for integrated server hardware.
The IMM firmware update was downloaded
previously. See Downloading firmware updates for System x. Refer
to the readme file printed earlier during the IMM firmware download.
Use the readme file instructions along with the following steps to
perform the firmware update. The readme file can contain any changes
necessary to the following instructions. Follow the directions in
the readme file wherever differences occur.
Note: The following
steps are performed on the computer containing the update package
(not on the System
x console).
- Configure the IP address and networking information for
the IMM. See Configuring the IMM IP address and DHCP settings.
- Ensure the System
x AC
power cords are attached to a power source. Refer to System
x documentation to complete
this step. Wait at least 30 seconds following this step to allow the
IMM hardware to start.
- Open a Web browser. In the address field, type the IP address
of the IMM to which you want to connect. The Enter Password window
opens.
- Type the user name and password on the Enter
Password window. The IMM has a default user name of USERID and
password of PASSW0RD (where 0 is a zero, not
the letter O).
- Select a timeout value on the next screen and click continue.
- If the next window is the System Status window,
on the navigation pane on the left, under Tasks,
click Firmware Update.
- Click Browse and navigate to the
file containing the firmware update. The file has an extension of .exe.
- Select this file and click Open.
The full path of the selected file is displayed in the Browse field.
- To start the update process, click Update.
A progress indicator opens as the file is transferred to temporary
storage on the Integrated Management Module. A confirmation window
is displayed when the file transfer is complete.
- Verify that the file shown on the Confirm Firmware
Update window is the one you want to update. If not, click Cancel.
- To complete the update process, click Continue.
A progress indicator opens as the firmware on the Integrated Management
Module is installed. A confirmation window is displayed when the update
completes.
