Updating firmware and configuring System x IMM

Update and configure the Integrated Management Module (IMM) service processor to communicate with IBM® i.

You can skip this topic if the System x® hardware does not have an IMM installed. Refer to BladeCenter or System x service processor work sheet item XSP1 to determine whether to continue with this section.

Using an Ethernet cable, connect the IMM to the Ethernet port on the computer containing the IMM firmware update. Refer to the IMM documentation to complete this action.
Tip: You might need a switch or hub to complete these connections, depending on the location of the System x hardware and the computer containing the update.
If you have not already downloaded the IMM firmware update see Downloading firmware updates for System x.

The following procedure assumes the IMM is set to its factory default values. If the IMM IP address is no longer known, it can be set back to the defaults, using the Setup utility. Follow the instructions in the section (Optional) Updating IMM network configuration to defaults.

Note: The following steps are performed on the computer containing the update package (not on the System x console).
