Setting up a stand-alone production server on Windows

Set up a stand-alone production environment after you have tested a single server environment and are ready to create a production environment. You can modify this environment to support remote databases and different security options.

After completing the installation, remember to tune the servers in your portal environment in order to achieve better performance.   1. Preparing your Windows operating system in a stand-alone environment
    View information on setting up your operating system for IBM WebSphere Portal Express. Other components might require more steps; see the product documentation for the specific components you want to install for information.
  2. Installing WebSphere Portal Express on Windows
    IBM WebSphere Portal Express is installed as a single component, complete with an integrated database for storing information. The single component feature gets WebSphere Portal Express up and running quickly for a proof of concept phase where you can immediately begin building and working with it. You can also expand your environment to include idle-standby, a remote database for easier management and better distributed processing load, and LDAP-based authentication.
  3. Windows stand-alone: Converting the evaluation license
    If you initially installed IBM WebSphere Portal Express using the evaluation license and then purchased the product, you can convert the installed evaluation license to a production license. You can do this at any time, before or after the evaluation license expires.
  4. Windows stand-alone: Configuring your portal to use a database
    Before transferring default data to the production database server, you need to prepare the database server. Database preparation includes creating user IDs and databases. For this installation path, stand-alone production server, remote databases servers are used.

    Install and configure the web server plug-in, provided by IBM WebSphere Application Server to set up your web server to communicate with IBM WebSphere Portal Express.
  6. Windows stand-alone: Configuring Portal to use a user registry
    Configure user registry security on IBM WebSphere Portal Express to protect your server from unauthorized users. You can configure a stand-alone LDAP user registry or you can add both LDAP user registries and database user registries or database user registries to the default federated repository. After you configure your user registry, you can add realms for Virtual Portals or a lookaside database to store attributes that cannot be stored in the LDAP user registry.
