Installing WebSphere Portal Express on Windows

IBM® WebSphere® Portal Express® is installed as a single component, complete with an integrated database for storing information. The single component feature gets WebSphere Portal Express up and running quickly for a proof of concept phase where you can immediately begin building and working with it. You can also expand your environment to include idle-standby, a remote database for easier management and better distributed processing load, and LDAP-based authentication.

Review the WebSphere Portal Express detailed system requirements for your operating system and ensure that all hardware and software matches the minimum product level before you install WebSphere Portal Express.

Choose one of the following installation methods to install IBM WebSphere Portal Express:

  • Stand-alone: Installing with the Installation Manager on Windows
    You can use the IBM Installation Manager to help you install IBM WebSphere Portal Express and IBM WebSphere Application Server in a stand-alone environment. The IBM Installation Manager gathers essential information, such as host name and node, and then performs the installation.
  • Stand-alone: Installing with the response file on Windows
    First install IBM Installation Manager. You can either create a response file for your system or you can modify one of the existing response files. Use the response file to install IBM WebSphere Portal Express and IBM WebSphere Application Server in a stand-alone environment. Record a response file on the same operating system you plan for the installation. If you have multiple operating systems, you must record a response file for each operating system.
