Adding attribute in the IBM Control Desk applications and use it for the Lucene search
The Lucene search engine is used for full-text search in several IBM Control Desk applications such as Problem, Incident, TKTEMPLATE, SR, Global Search, Self-Service Center, Service Portal, etc. In previous IBM Control Desk releases users can add new attributes in the ICD applications but Lucene is not able to search value for all attributes in the applications. Lucene can search value only in the description and description_longdescription attributes.
IBM Control Desk 7.6.1.4 enhances the Lucene searching capabilities and the user is now able to search all the attributes values in the IBM Control Desk applications. To get this implemented, the user needs to do the following:
  1. Open the search.properties file located at ..\..\IBM\WebSphere\AppServer\profiles\<profile_name>\objsearchindex.
  2. Add the attribute you want Lucene to search against the relevant application.

For example, if you added a new attribute location in the TKTEMPLATE application, then add location against TKTEMPLATE in the search.properties so that the Lucene can search with the value in the location attribute.

  3. Similarly, add the attributes against other applications (SR, INCIDENT, PROBLEM, etc) in the search.properties file so that the Lucene shows result when you search with the value in the respective attribute.

By default, IBM Control Desk specifies that Lucene search indexes run every 24 hours. You can change this schedule to suit your business needs. For more details, refer to Configuring Lucene search index schedules.

The Offerings in the Service Portal now displays the custom table data
Offering dialogs that are stored in the Offerings application (pmscoffer.xml) can be modified to add a custom table in the Offerings. Once the custom tables are added successfully, you can view the custom tables in the Preview dialog button of the relevant offering. In previous IBM Control Desk releases, users can view added custom table data in the Offerings but the same custom table data was not reflecting when viewed in the Self Service Center of Service Portal.
With IBM Control Desk 7.6.1.4 enhancements, users can now view the Offerings custom table data in the Self Service Center of Service Portal similar to the functionalities in the Self Service Center of the IBM Control Desk.
  • To know more on how to modify the Offering dialogs that are stored in the Offerings application (pmscoffer.xml) to add a custom table, see Creating a custom dialog.
