Logging in to the IBM IoT MessageSight Web UI

Log in to the IBM® IoT MessageSight Web UI to verify the installation of IBM IoT MessageSight and to administer the IBM IoT MessageSight messaging server.

Before you begin

  • Ensure that the IBM IoT MessageSight Web UI and IBM IoT MessageSight messaging server are running.
  • You might need to amend your firewall rules to enable access to the IBM IoT MessageSight Web UI and to the IBM IoT MessageSight REST API. The default port for the IBM IoT MessageSight Web UI is 9087, and the port for the IBM IoT MessageSight REST API is usually 9089.
  • The IBM IoT MessageSight Web UI can administer the messaging server only after the license is accepted on the messaging server. Use the IBM IoT MessageSight REST API to accept the license on the messaging server. For more information about accepting the license by using the IBM IoT MessageSight REST API, see Configuring the licensed usage for IBM IoT MessageSight and accepting the license by using REST Administration APIs.

About this task

You can use the URL https://<server:Port> to connect to the IBM IoT MessageSight Web UI. This task uses https://10.10.2.149:9087/ to connect to the IBM IoT MessageSight Web UI. To use this URL, your IBM IoT MessageSight Web UI container must be running on the host with IP address 10.10.2.149.

You need to accept an IBM IoT MessageSight Web UI certificate and an IBM IoT MessageSight server certificate before you can start using the IBM IoT MessageSight Web UI. Both of these certificates must be changed if you move from a non-production to a production environment.

Procedure

  1. Open a Firefox, Chrome, or Internet Explorer 11 browser and connect to the IBM IoT MessageSight Web UI by entering the following URL:
    https://10.10.2.149:9087
  2. Accept the IBM IoT MessageSight Web UI certificate so that you can view the login page.
  3. Log in and accept the IBM IoT MessageSight server certificate in one of the following ways:
    • If you are using Firefox or Google Chrome, complete the following steps to log in and accept the IBM IoT MessageSight server certificate:
      1. At the login prompt, type the default ID and password (admin/admin ) and click Log in. The error Cannot connect to the IBM IoT MessageSight server is displayed.
      2. Click Click here in the message text. An error page is displayed that indicates that you need to accept the certificate.
      3. Follow the browser prompts to accept the certificate. The About IBM IoT MessageSight page is displayed in a new browser window.
      4. Return to the IBM IoT MessageSight page. If the error box is still displayed, refresh the page.
      5. If the IBM IoT MessageSight license was not accepted on the messaging server, you are prompted to accept the license. For more information, see the Before you begin section of this topic.
      6. The Get started with IBM IoT Message Sight Web UI section of the IBM IoT MessageSight page is displayed.
        1. Ensure that the values in the Admin Address and Admin Port fields are correct.
        2. Click Test connection.
        3. Click Save and Manage.
      7. The Common configuration and customization tasks section on the Home tab of the IBM IoT MessageSight page is displayed.
    • If you are using Internet Explorer 11, complete the following steps to log in and accept the IBM IoT MessageSight server certificate:
      1. At the login prompt, type the default ID and password (admin/admin ) and click Log in.
      2. After you are logged in, follow the browser prompts to accept the certificate.
      3. If the IBM IoT MessageSight license was not accepted on the messaging server, you are prompted to accept the license. For more information, see the Before you begin section of this topic.
      4. The Get started with IBM IoT Message Sight Web UI section of the IBM IoT MessageSight page is displayed.
        1. Ensure that the values in the Admin Address and Admin Port fields are correct.
        2. Click Test connection.
        3. Click Save and Manage.
      5. The Common configuration and customization tasks section on the Home tab of the IBM IoT MessageSight page is displayed.
    Note: You can replace the default certificate with your own appropriately signed certificate and then you do not have to keep accepting certificates.
