Software Instance Create Workflow - UNIX File System Data Sets page

The UNIX File System Data Sets page in the Software Instance Create Workflow page is displayed if there are UNIX directories for which z/OSMF could not identify the corresponding UNIX file system data set.

Overview

To identify all the data sets that are included in the software instance, z/OSMF searches the DDDEF entries defined in the corresponding target zones and distribution zones (if copied). Some DDDEF entries identify a data set directly, in which case, z/OSMF adds it to the software instance.

For the DDDEF entries that identify a UNIX directory instead of a data set, z/OSMF searches the system's UNIX file system for those directories. If the directory is found, z/OSMF identifies the corresponding UNIX file system data set and adds it to the software instance. If the directory is not found, z/OSMF cannot identify the UNIX file system data set because the data set is not mounted. In this case, you must use the UNIX File System Data Sets page to identify the data set and add it to the software instance.

For a description of the items displayed on the page, see Table 1. For a description of the actions listed in the Actions menu, see Actions for UNIX file system data sets.

Items on the UNIX File System Data Sets page

Table 1. Items on the Software Instance Create Workflow - UNIX File System Data Sets page
Item Description
Software instance Name of the software instance, and the name of the z/OSMF host system that has access to the volumes and data sets where the software instance resides.
Unmounted Directories Name of the section that identifies the unmounted UNIX directories for a software instance.

Each section contains the following items:

  • UNIX File System Data Sets table. Lists the UNIX file system data sets that have been specified for the unmounted UNIX directories. The data sets could have been specified previously for the software instance. The table contains the following columns:
    • Data Set Name. Name of the UNIX file system data set that contains one or more of the directories listed in the UNIX directories field.
    • Mount Point. Mount point that makes the directories in the data set accessible to SMP/E. The mount point must be a prefix for one or more of the directories listed in the UNIX directories field.
Note: z/OSMF uses the mount point to associate the UNIX file system data set with the appropriate UNIX directories. z/OSMF does not mount the data set.
  • UNIX directories field. UNIX directories field. Lists the UNIX directories for which z/OSMF could not identify a UNIX file system data set. When you add a data set and mount point to the UNIX File System Data Sets table, the UNIX directories with the specified prefix (mount point) are removed from the list.

You cannot proceed to the next page in the wizard until you specify a data set and mount point for each directory listed. That is, the UNIX directories field must be empty.

Actions for UNIX file system data sets

The actions are described in the following tables:
  • Table 2. Actions that apply to the selected data sets. To use a targeted action, select one or more data sets.
  • Table 3. Actions that apply to data sets. No selection is required.
  • Table 4. Actions that apply to the entire table. No selection is required.
Table 2. Targeted actions
Action Description
Modify Modify the name or mount point for the selected UNIX file system data set. To enable this action, select only one data set.
Remove Remove the selected UNIX file system data set and mount point. To enable this action, select one or more data sets.
Table 3. General actions
Action Description
Add Specify a data set and mount point for one or more of the directories listed in the UNIX directories field.
Table 4. Table actions
Action Description
Select All Select all of the rows in the table.
Deselect All Deselect all of the selected rows in the table.
Configure Columns Select the columns to display in the table, specify the order of those columns, and designate which columns should be fixed in position when the table is scrolled horizontally.
Hide Filter Row Remove the filter row from view. This action is listed only when the filter row is displayed in the table.
Show Filter Row Display the filter row. This action is listed only when the filter row is not displayed in the table.
Clear Sorts Clear the sort from all of the columns in the table. This action is disabled if no sorting is specified in the table.
