To add non-SMP/E managed data
sets to a software instance,
use the Add action provided in the Data
Sets table on the Non-SMP/E Managed Data Sets tab or page.
About this task
z/OSMF provides
a search data set capability, which you can use to search for non-SMP/E
managed data sets to add to a software instance. To do so, complete
the procedure that follows.
If the system where the software
instance resides is not at the correct service level to process the
search request, z/OSMF notifies
you and gives you the option to type the data set name and volume.
In the current session, if additional add data set requests against
that system are submitted, z/OSMF will ask you
to type the data set name and volume by default. That is, you will
complete Steps 1 and 5 only.
Procedure
- In the Data Sets table,
select Add from
the Actions menu. The Add Non-SMP/E Managed Data Set page is
displayed.
- Specify the search criteria, as
follows:
- In the Data set name qualifier field,
enter the data set name qualifiers to be
used to search for data sets. A data set name qualifier is required if no volume is specified. For
the syntax rules, see Searching by data set name qualifier.
- In the Volume field, type or select the volume serial for the volume
where the data sets to be searched reside. A volume is required if no data set name qualifier is
specified. The volume serial can contain up to 6 alphanumeric characters (A-Z, a-z, and 0-9), and
the volume must be accessible by the system where the software instance resides. The Volume
field lists the last 10 volume serials you entered.
- In the Maximum data sets field, specify the maximum number of data sets to be
returned in the search results. A value is required, and must be a whole number in the range of 1 to
10,000. The default value is 750.
- Click Search.
- If the system where the software instance resides
supports
the search capability, z/OSMF searches for
data sets that match your search criteria, as follows:
- If you specified only a data set name qualifier, z/OSMF searches the
catalog of the system where the software instance resides and identifies
data sets with a name that matches the qualifier.
- If you
specified only a volume, z/OSMF searches the
specified volume on the system where the software instance resides
and identifies all the data sets that reside on that volume.
- If
you specified a data set name qualifier and a volume, z/OSMF searches the
specified volume on the system where the software instance resides
and identifies data sets with a name that matches the data set name
qualifier.
z/OSMF displays
the data sets that satisfy your search criteria in the Select Data
Sets to Add table. Select one or more non-SMP/E managed data sets
to add to the software instance, and click Add.
- If the system where the software
instance
resides does not support the search capability, z/OSMF displays a message
indicating that the system is not at the correct service level. In
which case, you must complete the following steps:
- In the Name field, enter the name of the data set to be added.
You cannot specify data set members or a subset of a data set. A data set name is
required.
- In the Volume field, enter the volume serial. A volume is required if
the data set is not cataloged. The volume serial can contain up to 6 alphanumeric characters (A-Z,
a-z, and 0-9), and the volume must be accessible by the system where the software instance resides.
- Click OK to add the
data set
to the software instance.
