Adding product information files

If a product information file resides on or can be accessed by the z/OSMF host system, use the Add action in the Product Information Files table to specify how to access the file.

About this task

z/OSMF will add this information to the table, and it will be shared across all users who are authorized to retrieve product information files. z/OSMF does not retrieve the contents of the file during an add. To retrieve its contents, use the Retrieve action.

Restriction: The Add action is not supported for files that are only accessible by your local workstation because z/OSMF does not preserve information about those files.

Procedure

  1. To display the Product Information Files table, complete the following steps:
    1. Display a table where you can access the Retrieve End of Service Information action. To do so, complete one of the following steps:
      • Click Products on the Software Management page.
      • Select Products from the Switch To menu provided on the Deployments page and the Software Instances page.
      • In the Products view, invoke the View > Software Instances action.

    2. Select Retrieve End of Service Information from the Actions menu, or click the Retrieve End of Service Information button (if provided).

The Select Product Information File page is displayed.

  3. In the Retrieve from field, select one of the following options:
    • URL. The product information file can be accessed using a URL. For this option, internet access is required from the z/OS® system that hosts the primary z/OSMF instance.
    • Primary z/OSMF instance. The product information is contained in a data set or UNIX file that can be accessed by the z/OS system that hosts the primary z/OSMF instance.
  4. If you selected URL, complete the following steps:
    1. In the URL field, enter the URL for the product information file. A URL is required.
    2. In the HTTP proxy field, select the HTTP proxy that defines the settings required for z/OSMF to navigate the HTTP proxy server that is between the primary system and the system where the file is stored. You can select a proxy from the list, or click Select and select it from the table. A selection is required. For more information about HTTP proxy definitions, see help topic Specifying your HTTP proxy settings.
  5. If you selected Primary z/OSMF system, in the Data set or UNIX file field, enter the name of the z/OS data set or UNIX file that contains the product information. The name is required, and the primary z/OSMF host system must be able to access the data set or UNIX file.
  6. In the Description field, enter a description of the product information file. You can use the description to indicate who supplied the file and for which products information is provided. The description is optional.
  7. Click OK to add this information to the table. Product information files must be unique.
