IBM Performance Management

System requirements

For the IBM® Performance Management agents, various operating systems are supported and each agent has specific requirements. The Performance Management server has other requirements, which vary depending on the number of agents that you want to use for monitoring data sources and whether you use your own DB2® server.

Permissions

You must have root permissions to install and run the Performance Management server. Running the Performance Management server as a non-root user is not supported.

After the Performance Management server is installed, you cannot change the permissions of the Performance Management files and directories. In addition, you cannot change the user or group owners of these files and directories.

Time zone

Use Network Time Protocol (NTP) on managed systems and on the system where the Performance Management server is installed to ensure that the time is accurate. Setting the time to match the physical location of the servers (such as UTC-03:00 for Brasilia and UTC +06:30 for Yangon) helps ensure accurate time stamps for events and transactions.

Monitoring agent hardware and software requirements

Obtain information about the hardware and software requirements for each monitoring agent that you plan to install.

For information about the requirements for the monitoring agents and the Performance Management server, see the APM Developer Center > System requirements on developerWorks®.

You can also use the Software Product Compatibility Reports to generate various types of reports that are related to product requirements. Search for the Performance Management - Agents product name.

The local computer system where the agent is installed must support UTF-8 encoding if the agent sends globalized data to the Performance Management server.

For information about the DB2 server users and groups that are created by the Performance Management server installation, see the Background information topic.
