IBM Streams 4.2.1

Resources

Resources are physical and logical entities that IBM® Streams uses to run services.

You can obtain resources from the default IBM Streams resource manager or an external resource manager. For more information, see Resource managers.

IBM Streams resources are always hosts. The externally managed resources might be other types of physical and logical entities, such as containers and process groups. Both IBM Streams resources and externally managed resources can be used together in a domain.

You can allocate a resource to one or more domains. After you create instances in the domain, resources are dynamically allocated to the instances when they start. You can influence the allocation of resources by using tags.

You can configure resources to run specific types of IBM Streams services by using tags. There are three general types of resources:
Application resource
A resource that runs application services and jobs only.
Management resource
A resource that runs management services only.
Mixed resource
A resource that runs application and management services and jobs.
By default, if multiple resources are allocated to a domain, IBM Streams reserves one resource exclusively for management services.
